Rear Diff Rebuild

I've never had a DSM rear diff apart, but while under my car fixing the seriourly fubared carrier bolts I noticed that my DS rear axle can be moved up and down at the diff and there is a good amount of play in the diff itself. I searched here and I didn't find anything showing how the diff is put together so I know what all is worn. I want to rebuild it with new bearing and shim it to get that play under control, but I don't know if the axle rides directly on a bearing and the bearing is loose, or if it rides on the carrier and the carrier is shot. Anyone have any thoughts on this and or source for rebuild parts?

I did post it there actually. It's under the DSM section. I actually posted it there first and then copied the exact same info here. I have it on a few different forums with no luck.

It is not too hard to do. Is it a viscous LSD rear end or an open diff rear end?

The factory service manual shows all the specs, and the parts are easy to get from the mitsubishi dealer.

The parts pricing for bearings, seals and shims are around $200-250.00.

Preload specs and shim specs are in the factory service manual as well.

Thanks for the info. I have done diffs before, but it's been awhile. I'm going to have to look for another diff and then rebuild what I have for a spare
