Rear Diff Cover Leaking

Has anyone had problems with the rear diff cover leaking durring a road racing event? I'm considering the purchase of a FF CNC rear diff cover but $400 is alot of money to spend for something that might not be a problem. I can totally understand the drag race guys needing it due to the high shock load.

Does it have any cracks? I've seen ones with hairline cracks around the plug area that wont leak unless the fluid heats up enough.

Currently their are no cracks around the plug. I was really more concerned about the mating surfaces leaking.

I know it is a lot of work, but if your diff is 20+ years old like mine was, could be worth re-super greying the cover. I took my rebuild as an opportunity to make the rear diff look better as well...

I didn't want to spend the $400 for the FF one either, but maybe someday. Until then, she's purrrrrty now.

It can be common for them to develop small cracks around the bolt holes due to age and general fatigue. Check it over closely, and you might find one or more cracks. I've even found a cracked cover on a bone stock, 60k 2G, so it doesn't always take high mileage or alot of HP to have it happen.
