I re used a very old downpipe gasket, im assuming it probably didnt re seal? If it was leaking exhaust from that area would it cause the car to be a little slower then usual.

Hold on though, if it wouldnt make it slower then why with my 3" dp i tried putting on but couldnt get on all the way make my car slower then hell.

A leak -post turbo won't hinder performance at all.
If you need to use that gasket (You can get one from Extremepsi for a few bucks) just use some RTV sealant, that stuff works great.
It wouldn't make your car slower, maybe something else happened, or your just imagining it?

An exhaust leak can cause turbulance/back-pressure and theoretically cause some lost power. A slight seal problem shouldn't be anything the butt dyno would pick up though.

ok one more question, i cut the rear 02 sensor off, like theres just wires hanging there now. That wont cause anything to happen right?

You could also go pick up some gasket material and cut your own. The material looks like a mesh/dimpled shiney piece of composite/cardboard metal. Easy enough to work with and you can reuse it many times over.

If the downpipe is not sealed to the 02 housing, than it could definitely cause a loss of power. It is happening to me right now. Car responds like poo, and because the leak is on the front side, exhaust gasses are warming up my radiator and lower ic pipe. My car has been overheating at idle ever since, so I have to fix it. The heat also damages alternators.

There is a chance you could throw a CEL as someone said, due to the rear o2 sensor not reading accurately. I had a leak between the downpipe and cat-back on my car because I reused a gasket and it threw one. Although since you cut your o2 sensor off, then you should be seeing one anyway.

just get a new one they are cheap. . and coat it with the copper gasket spray in the copper aerosol can. . (cant think of the name) i use it on all exhaust gaskets and have never had one fail on me

on an emissions note, if the car has a small exhaust leak it could fail emission test for N0x because the cat is not getting the right amount of gases needs to make the cat work

Why would you re use a gasket in that shape. Go pick one up from an exhaust shop and call it done. It throw off your rear o2 reading putting on the check engine light but i even doubt that. Most likely it will just make an annoying sound and stink

What sort of sound will it make?

I've never heard of using RTV on exhaust parts before, is this common?

The sound it makes depends on the size of the leak. When I last had one, it was described to me by someone outside the car as sounding like a helicopter. It was like a pfft, pfft, pfft type sound if that makes any sense at all. As far as using RTV goes; I've used it to seal exhaust flanges before and I know of others who have as well.

i re use the exhaust gaskets all the time... it wont hurt to much if it leaks a little but you would be able to tell if it is...only time i dont re use them is if their burnt or rusted depending on the gasket
