Rattle And Squeeking

Ok, I did do a search and found my answers, i just wanna confirm because about the squeking im not 100% sure

First off, my car rattles (shakes) alot when moving at low and high speeds, the answer to this on what i found was i need an alignment, or check my lugs to make sure they are tight.

Now for the squeking. I hear a squeking noise from the front wheel area when im driving , and in reverse its twice as bad.Now i researched this and the answers i saw was new brake pads. Is all this correct?

The shaking could be a couple of things, the tires could be out of balance, out of alignment, or you may have worn cv joints, bearings, tie rod ends, ball joints.

As for the squeaking, does it happen only happen when you apply the brakes?

How does the car feel when you are just idling? if the car is fine when you are not moving, alignment and tire balancing might be in order. you could probably get both for under $100. Checking your lugs is no problem either.

As for the squeaking, is it a really high pitched squeak? I had a sound like that just start happening to my 91 eclipse when i would reverse. It was my brakes, and when i replaced them it went away. but it wasnt a squeak it was more like a loud groaning.

GST racer- My car seems fine when idle, besides of the lifter noise that it makes. Hmm the noise is hard to describe. Its more of a squek.It happens in reverse, and all other gears.

dsmzoom-the noise doesnt happen when i apply the brakes, atleast not that i remember, i only know of hearing it during acceleration and just cruising.

First off, alignment, and most times front end parts, will not directly cause a shake. If it's WAY out, like you forgot to mention you were out jumpng railroad tracks before it started, it can. Alignment/bad partswill cause tire wear, which is the root of most peoples vibration complaints.

Other causes could be bad tires (not just worn), tire balance, bent wheels and loose lug nuts, to name a few. Post everything you can think of as far as symptoms; what speed is it worse? Does it get worse the faster you go? Does it seem like its even speed related, or maybe engine speed related? Is there a noise associated with it (rattle?)

sounds like some suspension part is lacking lubrication, wheel bearing or axle bearing possibly? What I would do is jack the car up in the front and spin the front tires and listen to where its coming from and report back

I just went out for a ride. Ok for the squeking problem, its only on my LEFT wheel well area. I had a friend listen and you cant hear anything on the right. I looked at my rim, my right rim is the normal silver of a aftermarket rim, but my left rim looks like its starting to turn dirty blackish color. I have red brake calipers, all of them are red, accept that left front, which is turning really dirty.

The rattling happens at all speeds.. sometimes going 60 its bad, and sometimes its not, it keeps going off and on, but it does rattle.

Sounds like that left brake may be locking up or grabbing causing it to wear uneven as opposed to the others. Take the wheel off take a look at the brake pads compared to the others.

Affirmative. If you can hear it comeing from the left side, and the left side is covered in brake filth, then I imagine the left side is bad. It doesn't seem to be slowing you down though? could be that its not fully realeasing.

yeah I think thats it. When he brakes it works the way it should, but it has problems releasing. The way rotors are designed is to be slighty unbalanced causing it to have a slight "wobble" to push the pad away from the rotor.

Struts could be a likely area also for suspension rattles and noise. If they are shot, your ride will suffer and it can amplify other looseness/noise.

Push up and down on the front fender a few times and let go... see if the car is "bouncy" or if you hear anything sqeaky or loose sounding.

The black stuff all over your wheel is used brake pad. Usually when you see it building up like that your brakes are metal to metal. If your rims have big enough holes to reach thru and grab the brakes, then feel the inside of the rotor ( after it cools). Both sides should be smooth. If not, you will need to replace the rotors along with the pads. When you get the wheels off, make sure the caliper moves in and out horizontally before you take it apart. If not, clean and lube the guides with dielectric grease or caliper slide grease.

I would fix the brakes, then see if the other noise is still there.

The rotors should be smooth, if they're not you can just get them turned instead of buying new ones

I think its my brakes. I went out again with some friends, and if i like hit the brakes.. somewhat hard like for an emegency, it wants to throw my car to the right. it feels like the left side is locking up and pushing me to the right, which has never happened before.

A bad caliper or hose can cause the brake pull you're describing. Better get this fixed soon, the more you drive it, the more it will cost to fix it. Also you stand a chance the brakes will go out altogether if the piston comes out of the caliper. Then you will need new underwear along with brakes.

It may not even be a bad caliper, your slides may not be properly lubed and are hanging up and causing the left front to drag. I would first check the slides and grease it up before buying new calipers/hoses.

Yea, lube your guide pins, it'd be an easy fix if it works. However with the pulling to one side, sounds like something is wrong with the hydraulics. Check out your brake hoses, caliper, and make sure fluid levels are good. You may need to replace that caliper, or you can get a rebuild kit from most auto parts stores for around 5 bucks.

ok i deffenly think my brake is not releasing all the way. I was coming home from school today, and whenever i get under 10mph for braking at lights, or stop signs, when im at like 1mph, almost at the stop, u can really hear a grinding noise type of thing, and when i first stop stop, it kinda jerks me back, like its stuck there. Taking off you can hear a grinding noise again

Maybe your caliper is partially seized and giving you that squeak! And as for the rattling, your wheels may out of balance, your car is out of alignment(if driving around freeway speed and while letting go of the steering wheel, the car should drift right or left.), one or many of your suspension is old..like my stock shocks on lowering springs; which leaks and squeaks like a mothaeffa.

The metal on metal scrapping sound should be just the wear indicator.

When enough of the friction material is worn away, the wear indicator will contact the disc and make a squealing sound. This means it is time for new brake pads.

The sound is meant to be very annoying, and it is.

Not just brakes, you need new rotors as well. You can get them turned pretty cheap if they are still within the specifications or you can use this for an excuse to upgrade.

The rotors need to be resurfaced or replaced only if there is pulsing during braking or scoring. The OP did not mention either symptom.

That doesn’t mean it’s not a good excuse for an upgrade. Powerslots with Axxis ultimate pads anyone?

hello i bought a 99 eclipse with the 2.4 non turbo engine. when i bought it the car shaked a lil bit when at low speeds but when u got into 3rd gear it drove fine even at high speeds there was no shaking. the guy told me it was the stabalizer link. so i replaced that and the car still shakes. i leave for ohio in two weeks and need help. i dont no what it could be.
