On my 93 TSi AWD there is a squeak when I turn the wheel, and it also squeaks over bumps. I am guessing I need shocks and steering arm bushing?

Also, there is a rattle everytime I rev it up, a few people have told me its the exhaust shield, probably my cat. It does sound like it comes from the lower passenger area. Does the cat have an exhaust sheild? And will taking it off hurt anything because of heat? It will only be a temp solution cause I am planning on a cat eliminating downpipe once my Jeep sells.

TIA,
Sawyer

ok the squeak is mostlikely the ball joints. shocks or struts dont make noise when you turn the wheel usually. and the best thing to do about the rattle is to get under their and move things around and see what happens.

If it is a rattle around the area you mentioned then it most likely is your cat or exhaust heat shield around the exhaust piping, take it off if its the shield or if its the cat just have a straight pipe welded in its place. As for the squeak my friend is going through the same problem just recently, his suspension is gone, we are pretty much riding on springs, he will be ordering new suspension and i suggest you do the same before your springs give out.

Just wait till you put some prothane or equivalent motor mounts on. My hood, foglights, dash, keys, sunroof, wipers all rattle. Get used to fixing them by getting under there and finding out where it is and eliminating the problem or isolating the problem.

i would say you "squeaking" is caused by Worn Ball Joints, possibly Tie Rod Ends :REPLACE THEM ALL: i've never heard shocks "squeak"

I also have alot of snow. And ice.
When it goes to the shop for the flywheel and trans I'm gonna have them check all the suspension stuff out too.

I think its the balljoint, the guy said its possibly just ### of how cold it is... im going to goto the dealership and find out however if the original owner went in and had the ball joint replaced when the recall was in effect.
