Random Phantom Knock

Im getting some random phantom knock. It is only during part throttle and with no boost. Any suggestions on what to look for besides a bad knock sensor?

If you have lifter tick, the knock sensor will sometimes think that you're knocking.

Replacing the lifters with 3G lifters is what most people do to solve lifter tick.

No lifter tick whatsoever. It just started knocking recently. Before that it was 0-2 count at all times.

If it was 0-2 counts all the time then what is it now with it's "phantom knock"? I'm sure you are aware that you want 0 counts across the pull at all times.

If the knocking is occurring consistently at specific RPMs then you can usually note that as phantom knock due to vibrations or some other mechanical sound. If it's altering then assume that it's regular knock and adjust accordingly to get rid of it.

I only had at most 2 counts on a hot day at WOT. It never saw a consistent knock at any point.I haven't adjust anything, or re-tuned the car recently. And I understand that any knock is bad knock. But I'm getting up to 40 counts randomly. Doesn't happen all the time. Some days it knocks some it doesn't. And it doesn't seem to be rpm specific. Also when I push the gas a little further, as soon as it makes boost the knock count seems to get lower.

Have you changed fuel either brand or grade?

No. I have always run the 93 octane from the Racetrack close to home.

Yes i did figure it out. I had the alternator rubbing on my intercooler piping. That was causing the issue.
