Can anyone give any insight into what to check for a random misfire condition. I just replaced the plugs with BRP6ES and gapped them to .028. I also replaced the plug wires. It comes and goes and isn’t always misfiring.

I recently replaced the HG, timing belts, WP and pulleys. Also replaced the cam and crank sensors. Also refreshed the entire cooling system.

The timing is good. I’m positive. When it doesn’t misfire, it runs smooth as butter and I don’t see any smoke.

when does it misfire? at idle? in boost?

my first go to after any major work is a boost leak test
Never at idle. It’s completely random. Sometimes when I hit boost. Sometimes when I’m just cruising. Someone suggested that I close my gaps down to .20-.22. I’m also going to have my injectors checked and cleaned.

After I replaced the plugs and wires i went on a cruise and got rather rowdy with it with no issues. But next day I went to go to work and didn’t make it to third gear before it popped. It doesn’t stay in misfire, it will go away but the light stays on.

Did the misfire start before or after the plug change?
Before. I bought the car and it had iridium plugs and would have a misfire on startup occasionally and I would turn the car off and back on and it would go away with no code. The code started recently so I changed the plugs and wires but still has a random misfire.

do a fuel pressure test and a boost leak test.

changing gap isnt going to solve a random misfire
I’m not gonna say you’re wrong and I’m definitely going to check those things. Others not on the forum have told me they had the same problem and changing the gap fixed it for them. I’m just trying to get a collective idea of other things to check as well. So I do appreciate your insight.
