ok so about 2 days ago i pulled my car out after about 2 months or so being the jack ass i am i forgot to check the oil in the car i drove it around here and there and after a while a couple of buddys of mine were doing burn outs so i joined i was burning out and as soon as im going to switch gears into 2nd gear my car shuts off i cranked it back up and parked it and let it sit running for about 35 to 40 min and then from my engine bay i accelerate it too hear if theres any unsual noises... none at all that i heard of so i turned it off 1 hour later im leaving and i jump on the highway and im in 1st gear and i feel my car bog and loose power so i switched to 2nd gear and rode slowly and out of no were my car shuts off and wont crank up i get it pushed all the way home and the next day im checking it out and i have no oil at all not a drop so i put in 3quarts of oil and try to crank it and seem like my motor is locked up. my timing belt wont even attempt to turn so i figured its locked could it be that or is there any other possibility y it wont start??? and yes i know im a jackass for not checking my oil :ohdamn:

That's sad news. Betting it is seized then. If you want to be 100% sure drain your oil and check for metal in it. Also you can check your oil filter.

What oil? There is none there to drain because he ran it dry.

On another note I would have to agree with the above and say it is a seized bearing. If the rod bent on the highway it would punch a hole in the block and create a big mess. I would honestly just do a rebuild it will be cheaper than buying a "crate motor" and more reliable than a "junkyard motor". Do you really wanna have to go through a engine rebuild/swap again? Do it right the first time.

Edit: another thing...make sure you check the parts in your car because if you do in-fact have a 6 bolt swap you do not want to order engine specific stuff for your chassis year (this is obvious but just thought I would toss it in here).

I have never done a 6 bolt swap on a 2g so my knowledge is somewhat limited. BUT, Don't you have to tap the front case for the crank sensor as well as a few other things? If it ran out of oil I can guarantee that oil pump is gouged to hell. Will he run into any of these specific 6 bolt in a 2g issues if he tries to do a rebuild?

So putting 3quarts of oil into an engine that ran dry will produce no shavings in the pan?
I didn't realise I thought the oil could flush some down as it ran through. Idk. Anyways. If you do got the time might want to rebuild. If you just want it to go then look at a used motor like others pointed out.
I will say rebuilding your own motor can be very gratifying:)

Look up the magnus method. It can be found easily by googling "1g in a 2g DSM."

I did the swap a couple months ago and tho it took me about 100 hrs there are definitely enough resources out there to help you get it done.

I'm not planning it, I have a 92. But for the OP, is there anything you learned/need from the swap that the OP might run into issues/ need to modify if he just goes out and gets a 6 bolt long block and tries to drop it it? I'll read through it and see if there is anything that sticks out for me.

EDIT: Okay I read through it and it seems that as long as he transfers everything over the same he shouldn't have any issues. The only question is weather he has a 2g or a 1g head?

Mine can with the motor mount and timing belt already on the motor. Because you need to modify the mount I had to remove it and the timing belt to get to it. Make sure you know how to install a timing belt correctly (I just followed YouTube videos and such).

Additionally I would have ecmlink ready to drop in by the time the swap is over because driving with the random misfire is a real pain in the ass.

Also you will have to drop the tranny which takes a fair bit of work. I also just followed videos online.
