Ran out of coolant / Possible problems

Coolant cap came off and my car ran out of coolant. Obviously i didnt know the cap came off, so after i seen a little smoke i just kinda blew it off because it was so hot out. I came to a stop light and put the clutch in and the car died. I left the car and called my brother to come out and put more water in it. I was in a hurry to go to my girlfriends. He called me a little while after and said that it wasnt starting. I am just looking for reasons why. Car is 100% bone stock. I do not beat on this car at all.

It wasn't in the red or anything but I run straight water and no coolant. Didn't seem to crank so or anything. I have a built motor but I had plans on selling it so I'm pretty bummed and stressed right now
 
Sorry not enough info to help much. But are you sure "all" the coolant leaked from your resevior tank? If it leaked from the water pipe that attaches to your water pump it could of gotten onto your alternator and shorted that out and now your battery is shot.

Something else must of been going on. Did your brother not press the clutch pedal in to start car? I've had people try to start my car. They put it in neutral and try but don't press clutch and tell me my car isn't starting. Gives me a good laugh and makes them feel silly.
 
Sorry i was posting from my phone. I ment it didnt seem to crank funny or any different. So my brother got the car started but he said it was running funny and all the water is pouring out of somewhere. So im gonna flat bed the car home and go from there
 
If it is pouring from somewhere I would say you cracked something really bad. I would run a compression test and also track down the water leak, since the cap was off I would check the freeze plugs.
