Radio Turns On But No Sound

I recently bought a 95 Eagle Talon Tsi AWD and the radio turns on but no sound comes from the speakers. It has the infinity sound system with a six disc CD changer. The owner claims that it worked fine until he had it taken in to have his master and slave cylinders replaced. What could be the problem and how do i fix it?

The easiest way to identify your issue is going to be to pull out your radio unit, check to see if there are any obvious things disconnected, then test any one speaker speaker lead to make sure there is continuity.

Most likely it is a failed head unit. If that one gave 15 years of service it outlived most of them.

Lol... My car still has the OEM Headunit in it, and the cd player still works. Its from 1991.

It sounds to me like your volumn knob is stuck. The one in my GST had to be jiggled and cranked and played with to get it to change the volume and I had the same system yours has. The factory premium one.

Beyond that it could be the amp or an unplugged wire.

The infinity systems use an amp underneath the seat. It's probably not getting power or may be bad.

+1^ Check if the DIN cable has come loose out of the amp (which mine always does and then no sound).

I had the exact same problem in my car, it turned out it was a bad ground in the engine compartment, So I just disconnected all the grounds I could see and cleaned them one by one with sand paper and put them back, problem solved.

2G Head units normally as stated only last around 150K. This has been the case in multiple 2G's I have owned or worked on. Most often than not I would also experience the volume going up and down on its own while it was on it's way out the door.

But since this cloud has a silver lining, now is your opportunity to upgrade to a more modern unit.

My car actually only has 84,500 miles on it but I get what your saying, it's an age thing not a milage thing. I recently was just hired so luckily I will be able to buy a new sound system, what do you all suggest? Price isn't a huge factor but I'm not looking for top of the line mondo expensive either. One more thing, recently when I am giving the car gas while driving I hear a slightly subtle hissing noise that obviously is not the turbo, is it something I should be worried about?

For a decent recommendation on stereo equipment we're gonna need to know a bit more about what you want out of this system. There's as much to know about them as there is about the rest of the car.

If it wasn't clear I'm in the upgrade it and move on.

I have a older eclipse cd3000 that lights up amber and matches my gauges, i would recommend one of them if you can find one. I'm very pleased with mine.
