Radio//power antenna problem..

Radio won't turn on after i shaved the antenna off..

I took the whole antenna assembly out of the car.. and unpluged 2 things..
i threw away the antenna assembly last night, and garage dudes came today.

Radio worked fine before i got rid of the assembly. How can i fix this.. i feel like the two plug in's that i disconnected have everything to do with the radio not working in my car..

In theory the radio should still be able to TURN ON but just not be able to receive any signal.

I myself am looking for a replacement for the motorized antenna, maybe a fixed an antenna. What I really want to do is reposition it to the rear washer nozzle located at the top of the hatch (with a shorty antenna), simliar postion as the Evos.

The radios should turn on after you shaved the antenna..You won't get a very good signal, but you will be able to turn it on..Did you unplug the power, or blow the radio fuse?

I disconnected the antenna all together and threw it away.. I have two plug ins not pluged into anything..
There just hanging there.. I think one might be the power.. But I don't understand why I need an antenna pluged in for my
Headunit to turn on...

You didn't mess with the head unit at all?

When you turn on the radio the antenna powers on, if I remember correctly..

Did you at least check the fuse..I want to get that out of the way..

yeah i checked the fuse on the back of the radio and the cig lighter

what i would do is check other stuff that are on that same fuse. if they work, then its a headunit problem. if they don't, then it could be possible that your overloading the radio with too much power to run.

Ok I see, from the OP's first post when he said, "Radio won't turn on" I assumed that the head unit had power and turned on but the "radio" won't turn on. But now I see that it's not just the radio that doesn't work it's the whole Head Unit assembly.

I have installed to many stereos to count, and I know that some head units are smart and will not let you pick the radio setting unless an antenna is connected only cd will work(not most only very few). Maybe one of the things you disconnected tell the head unit its "ok" to turn on. That would really be anoying and not make the most sence, but it could be that.

I think the Antenna Has an extra ground or something worked into the connector because I used to have a problem with my radio not turning on because of a loose connector with the antenna.... I actually had that problem with two different brand radios

That's right!!! Back when I had my 7g Galant, the antenna plug was the radio's ground.

Maybe that's it

Just ground the stereo frame to the car with a wire and see if that fixes it. If it does then you know that the ground wire runs threw one of the wires you unplugged.

Yeap.

I had this problem a month ago.

The radio didn't turn on until I add a ground wire.

The antenna was not electrical on my car.

Now that you throw away your antenna then it should be that you loose your ground to the Stereo.

Just ground the head unit with a wire to the frame.
