About to pull out what little hair I have left.

Radio went out in my 92. Bought another one, works pretty good plays good music until I put it in the dash. Then, no sound. Everything lites up, can change channels etc.

What went out in the old radio? Do you have access to a multimeter? Are you using a wiring harness adapter or hard wiring it?

does it go out the second you put it in? or does it run for a bit then go out? Maybe when you put it in you are blocking the fan to cool the unit down, or the speakers wires touch when you push it in, in which case would cut the speakers (you need to make sure no wire is exposed AT ALL!

Old radio went out on the way up here from Florida. Hit a bump and it quit. Display for the channel, clock went out.

Replaced it with one out of a 90. Didn't cut any wires, radio is a plug in.

No bare wires. Radio quits playing as soon as I put it in the hole but this one keeps the power on. Can change volumn, channels, etc, just no noise.

You really have to have the two plugs pushed in until they're locked into position. The small plug is mostly the ground wires and the hots for the front speakers, whereas the large one has the rest. One big factor is that you have to have the antenne wire plugged in good, or no sound will result.

Good possibility is that the used one is has a broken circuit board inside and opens up when you try to push it in the hole..

good luck - DSM

Sounds like faulty wiring...have you tryed moving the harness around some while it is plugged in out of the hole? Jiggle the harness around and see if it cuts in and out. I would go through the wiring with a multimeter, it is not complex.

Found the problem. The original radio was dead, Probably shorted out.

The replacement has a malfuntion circuit or something like that in it. Had a bad speaker that was causing the radio to shut off for protection. I just wasn't leaving it in long enough for the circuit to reset.

Many thanks to everyone that replied.
