A full weekend of cone dodging in the sun... what more could you as for?
This a a double regional event, where competitors from the whole Atlantic region compete for points towards the regional championships. So you'd expect good representation from the four Atlantic provinces, but in reality all the competitors were from Nova Scotia and, more specifically, the Halifax host club. So that was disappointing. But at least the region's FTD setter was in attendance, so I'd have a gauge to go by.
Day One
The course, laid out on an airport runway, was huge! We're talking 2 km (1.2 miles) long. And very fast / open. Most of the course was driven in 3rd gear, which is quite uncommon for an autox event. Plus the weather was sunny & warm at 25ºC (77ºF) which meant the race tires gripped well.
I was in the first run group and helped set the pace for the day. In fact, I was swapping FTD with a guy in a Formula Ford (FF) from run-to-run. I'd set FTD, he'd beat it, I'd set it again, he'd beat it again, etc. until that last run where he finally came out on top. No other cars in the run group were even close. At this point I was 2nd overall and 1st amongst the fendered cars.
Then the second group ran where the typical FTD setter slipped between the FF & I, bumping me down a spot. So at the end of the day I was 1st in class, 3rd overall (or 2nd overall if you discount the FF). Finally my luck was changing!
Day Two
Again another sunny day and even warmer at 27ºC. This lead to tremendous grip. According to my datalog, I was hitting 1.2 lateral G in some turns. Speeds were high too, as I was hitting over 120 km/hr (75 mph).
This time I was in the second run group, and had a target to reach for as the previous FTD setter had already posted his times for the day. But he was in top form and I couldn't catch him. So again I had to settle for 2nd overall (discounting the FF), which certainly wasn't a bad place to be. My goal for this season was to consistently place in the top three overall and I was finally there. Hooray!

Next event is a time attack in a few weeks. In the meantime, I'll be upgrading from DSMLink V2 to ECMTuning V3 and doing some proper tuning.
