Ok well, i got a race FMIC (CLICK HERE ) and dejon tool short route piping. For now, ill be running my ported 14b. In a few months ill be upgrading to a AGP rs60t (thus the reason for the big fmic). Im just worried about the pressure drop it will have with the 14b. Should i run it with it or no? Im stuck, not sure what to do. Part of me is telling me to wait till i get the turbo, but the rest is telling me to put it on so itll be done and less to do later. Opinions please...

Pressure Drop? Those cores have a drop of 1.5psi at its rated maximum 1273cfm.
A 14B will flow less than half that CFM rating so pressure drop would also be approx halved (~.75psi). The stock SMIC pressure loss is much higher (I'd bet in the 2-3psi range).

The only real drawback would be lag as compressing air into the large core will take time. Though will not be that apparent as the 14B spools pretty quickly to begin with and the end result will be vastly reduced air temps.

My vote run with it :thumb:

I also say run it....the only thing i see is just the big core to fill with the 14b as stated above....its like running a core like that on a t25.....we know that wont work too well...i think it should run fine, onlything is you wont notice any improvment....dont see the harm in it either.. :thumb:

by the way im the one that ran into you the other day... ;) ....noticed that lisence plate a mile away.

The amount of extra space that a turbo has to fill with a large FMIC versus a stock SMIC is negligible when you consider how much air they actually move. You'll notice next to no difference in spool, if any.

I was running a street core (a bit smaller at 24*8) with a 14b for some time. The first time I took it out I was ready to 'measure' some increase in lag with my eyes glued to the boost gauge when I stepped on it at 3K. To my surprise I noticed no difference whatsoever.

Interesting stuff here. The old guys at work are telling me that it will make the car slower, so i started to second guess it. We were thinking that it would spool alot slower due to the big core, but i guess it doesnt matter that much according to you guys. Atleast by putting it on, ill be able to work out off the bugs (leaks, and getting it mounted right). The only thing im not liking is that ill have this HUGE fmic, and small ass stock turbo!! Oh well...

My core is bigger then that, See my sig pic. I had to stretch the bottom of the bumper down under the fmic like 2" so the core don't hang down under the bumper and get hit off shit when i'm entering/exiting lots or going over bumps. It's 1ft tall by 3 1/2" thick and It takes up the hole space in my front bumper, It's the SBR core with shortroute piping. I did not notice any lag on my 14b, I didn't really notice a difference to tell you the truth. Maybe it is alittle laggy but i'm useto my previous car where I just start getting boost at 4,000rpms and my 14b gets full boost in 5th gear at 2750-2800 ROFL

I did have overheating problems and just installed a huge slimfan and a smaller one, But now my alternator and battery just died so I need to replace them...

I know how you feel, $120 later for a new alternator.

Looks like a retard with an egg beater got a hold of your bumper. :tease:

Just playing man. That shit looks like its ready to suck up a dog.

Go for it man...put the intercooler on. But one thing that came to mind was the damage in between now and when you get the turbo. If youre not getting the upgrade for about a year or so, I'd wait...that way if something was to happen between now and then, thats 1 less thing you have to buy. Even considering accumulated rock dents, etc. But if youre getting the turbo in a month or 2, what are you waiting for, install it :rocks: Thats my .02, back to the couch I go! :dsm:

Hadto make sure it woulden't look worse with it cut all the way up like that, Cause thats' where the top is, At the bottom of the headlights :p I just erased some of my bumper in paint to make sure it will look better :shhh:

I ran my ported 14b on the dejon tool race fmic and lets just say, they got along just fine :)
