the thread title says it all.... I'm looking for an efficient reasonably quiet recirculating Blow off Valve for my 1997 Eagle Talon TSI AWD.

the one I bought the car with vents into the atmosphere and it's terrible, garbage, stupid let alone the previous idiot stuck a broom handle into the line return on the intake then drove a screw through the aluminum to hold it.

p.s. reliability and longevity are also right up on top of the criteria...... I noted someone mentioning that Greddy Type S's use rubber for the BOV and am worried about longevity if I go that route.

are the 1g's that good?

I was just at ExtremePSI.com looking them over but didn't notice the NGR s.

thx for the reply's.

Yes, 1g's are that good if you crush them or do another form of a stop leak to it. NGR's are an ebay thing I think, unless vendors started picking them up. What they are is a genuine GReddy, but with stronger internals still, and without the GReddy name.

You won't find a better/quieter BOV than a 1g I don't think. Other option would be the HKS with a recirc kit but it won't be "quiet" still.

They sell the NGR's on Ebay (they only release a few at a time), but don't consider them just another "ebay company." They are currently working on their website. If you search on youtube, you can hear what they sound like. They have a channel too. :thumb:

"TRSblader" ... NGR is not just another Ebay BOV.... its a amazing BOV, with better quality than the original greddy type S .. i own one and its great ... so to the OP, the NGR is a good option, or just go with an Evo MR BOV ...

ngr bov's are better than greddy type s, the diaphragm is much stiffer.

I thought quiet was a requirement?

Just get a 1g valve.

I had a 1g BOV and @ 17 lbs. I thought it sounded louder than my newly installed Greddy type S. Of course I didn't have them side by side but I'm prety sure the 1g was louder. 1g is higher pitched. My Supra buddies said the 1g sounded like a little girl sneezing.

are all the recirc BOV's reasonably quiet...... I'm not saying I don't want a 1g BOV but ...... it just seems kinda backwards to buy a part from an older Eagle Talon to put on my newer one.... and just for the sake of pride of appearance I think I'd prefer a "shiny one".

don't get me wrong I'm not intending to offend but I think maybe my focus on silence may be overboard....... if a quality aftermarket recirc isn't insanely loud like the atmosphere venting monster that I have now is....... it should be fine.

the current Apexi scares the cars beside me while venting and does a shout out to every cop in a 3 block radius clear as day upon every shift even when not under load.

also I'm putting an EVO III 16g turbo, FP exhaust manifold on my car to boost performance..... I had assumed I'd need a better BOV than stock.

again I appreciate all of the recommendations for a stock 1g BOV and I'm leaning towards getting one ...... but....... it may be superstitious on my part but it just seems wrong to go back in time and that no better alternative that's also reasonably quiet hasn't come to market over the years.

money isn't unlimited but I'm certainly willing to part with some to get better.

I have a 16g and an FP manifold all of it ported. My stock bov works fine. If you are stuck on the word "stock" you have better look in some factory parts books. I can buy 500 cfm flowing heads from my Ford dealer. That is per intake port. Sometimes companies with a bigger budget than all the shiney BOV makers combined may not be bad. Go shiney though, the girls like it when you open the hood. Tres...

No offense, but just do a search for the 1g vs 2g BOV's. 2g's leak like crazy, and the 1g has proven to hold just as much as GReddy or HKS if you take a few minutes to modify it correctly (lots of tutorials on that). If you just search "Best bov" on these forums most of the recommendations are the 1g bov whether it's vented or not - it's just that good. Just go on youtube and do a search for HKS and GReddy's on dsm's and you'll hear what they sound like recirc'd. You can also hear numerous other bov's on youtube as well I'm sure.

And if having a "shiny" one is a problem, just take a few minutes and buff/polish the 1g and it'll out shine any other bov out there. They all get dirty. heck the HKS I had was probably dirtier than bov's off the '90s or anyone who takes it to the mud ever.

Most people (NOT all) want a loud BOV these days because they either vent, or still want it loud once they recirc. It's just the "in thing" these days it seems like.

Stock 1g BOV isn't a 'backwards approach' to your 2g. It's a common cheap upgrade. I have a ffriend with a 16G and his 1g BOV holds 25 psi just fine.

Also an Evo IX BOV is a DIRECT replacement for the 2g BOV. More expensive than a 1g of course but you can get your "shiny" on.

You'll find that when they changed from generation, they made changes to the BOV, exhaust manifold, Intake MAF, gearing, Compression, turbo, etc etc.

What people have done here is combine the best of both generations to get their goals.

The 1g has a larger throttle body, but the 2g has a larger Throttle body elbow.

The 1g has a metal BOV, the 2g is plastic.

The 1g manual has a larger turbo than the auto, and the 2g has a smaller turbo than the 1g.

The 1g has smaller exhaust manifold than the 2g.

The 1g and the 2g had different gearing.

The 1g has lower compression than the 2g.

There are a lot of differences between years. Just because a part might be from an earlier generation and be a bit older, does not mean it's a step back. Technically you could get a better car that's newer than a 2g, :p

ok I called the chrysler dealer and he wanted a VIN after asking what the heck a blow off valve is.

I don't have a vin for a 1g so I'm just going to do a request where can I grab a 1g BOV from.

I think I saw one at Extreme PSI systems the other day I'll be browsing the site after I submit this post.... but if anyone knows for sure that'd be great and thanks all for the help all recommendations were considered but it seems I'd be silly not to go 1g BOV so I'll give it a try.

I've learned to tell them the years. 1990 to 94. Then they ask what engine. Tell them 2.0 DOHC Turbo (if they ask) Then transmission, and correct them when they say front wheel drive. etc etc.

It helps if you call a Mitsubishi dealer I've found. The important bits are the same. Just the look and options were a tad different.

ok things have changed a little.

I've been negotiating with someone for an engine fully built and I mean the works and we have an agreement so I may be getting a 20g turbo in the deal....... given the potential level of available perf should I still stick with a 1g or go to a quality aftermarket unit.

can't believe I'm buying the engine.... mine is fine and I really don't need it but the price is ok and the parts if they prove to be true after inspection are very good.

I just installed a Greddy type-s with a Greddy uicp recirculated. Its the farthest thing from quiet. It whistles on every shift if I'm anywhere near 0 psi... But I love it for now!
