quick timming question

ok so im doing my water pump because it was leaking and as i was getting it to tdc i saw that the cam shafts are off. the intake side is like 2 teeth advanced and the exhuast is right on so should i move it back? thanks

umm....YES!!!!

Make sure you are perfectly in time before you even try to run the motor. You can do real damage to your valves if your gears are off by a lot.

I know how much damage it could cause alot of damage. Just wanted to know if there would be a reason that the person before me would do that

Because they thought they were getting more power by advancing the intake cam. Either that or they don't know how to line up cams properly when installing at timing belt.

Well I got it all back together at like 1 in the morning. Let me tell you it is cold here. But the funny thing is that a mechanic did the timing belt last time. Thanks for your help guys
