i have a 96 eclipse gst spider. i bought it 3 years ago with 90,000 and now i have like 145,000 so i need to do a timing belt. i know i should do a water pump too. but is there anything else i should do when im in there? And how much am i looking to spend if i bring to some where to do it?

Yeah replace anything you can when your in there. Save yourself money and do it yourself its an easy job to do.

i was thinking about doing it myself but wasnt sure how hard it realy is and dont want to mess it up and kill my motor.

if you have done engine work before then get a haynes manual and do it yourself.its a tight fit is the only problem.:thumb:

I wouldn't recommend doing timing yourself unless you are willing to risk a head rebuild.

Mine cost around $1000 (Canadian) for everything, which was:

- cam seals
- balance shaft belt
- balance shaft pulley
- hydraulic tensioner & pulley
- OEM timing belt
- water pump was fairly new, so they didn't touch it.

and a few other things.. don't cheap out on the timing belt, go with OEM.

yep, you can get most of these parts from jnztuning.com

I got all of my timing belt stuff from them for $178ish including auto tensioner and pulley, idler pulley, belt. You can get crank, cam seals from local stores.

Its not that hard to do its just a little tight at some points. Just go by what the manual says and you will be fine.
