I have a 91 Eclipse turbo. The problem that I am having, is I have replaced the timming belt and all components when i replaced my cylinder head. Since then every time i start the engine and let it warm up the tension releases and my timming belt starts to flutter, to the point that my belt could jump timming. I thought it might be the hydralic tensioner so I replaced it a second time, and it still does it. Any help would be great. Thanks

Something your doing is wrong, check vfaq.com for timing belt how help. Redo it, or dont start it ,you may have issues, also change the pulleys while your there, cheap insurance since your there.

Your lower adjustable timing pulley is coming loose ......This has happened to me and believe me if it's not corrected you will lunch the top end of your engine. Some people will actually adjust the pulley as described in the service manual and then before rolling the engine over they tack weld the locking bolt into place to keep it from backing off. My wildest guess is that the bolt is relaxing and stretching then that stretching is allowing the holding torque to drop. The vibration and tension from the belt then double team the adjuster and the adjuster backs off. The hydraulic tensioner below doesn't have enough stroke to maintain tension as the adjuster is backing off and the belt slackens until there is enough deflection to allow it to skip over the gears causing you headaches and costing you moolah....

Check your tensioners!

Ya i replaced the pullys, the hydralic tensioner belt and everything. My tensioner pully is staying where i put it but the hydralic tensioner will collapse to make the adustment for higher rpms but its not pushing back out like its supposed to. so i replaced it again and its still doing it. Im not sure what else to try.

Was it replaced with an OEM hydraulic tensioner and pulleys? And was the tensioner pulley set at the proper tension making the belt tight? Also inspect your tensioner arm and make sure it is tight as well.

Ya all of my tension components are new and should work properly im going to give it another try again in the morning. The only thing i can figure is Autozones hydralic tensioners are junk.

Well I went through the tensioning again and so far no problem. Thanks for the help.
