Hey guys,
Not trying to :beatentodeath: but I'm preparing to perform my battery relocation this weekend and wanted to get your opinion on something. I would consider my car a street car but want it to be NHRA legal for when I want to go to the track. So I already have all the supplies needed to mount my redtop in an NHRA approved box with a cutoff switch but realized my plan for mounting it techincally wont meet NHRA specifications. I was planning on just securing the box to the plywood type floor in the trunk in order to keep the trunk more functional and all the plastic on, but I know the rules state it has to be mounted to the frame. Do you think it would pass tech if I had all of the other safety specs followed but didnt necessarily have it mounted to the frame?
And if the concern is with the structural stability of the trunk flooring, what if i replaced it with like 3/4 MDF board and further secured that to the metal of the trunk?

I know this is more opinion based but I'd like to hear what you guys have to say.

I mounted mine right behind the back seats in the middle to the metal floor u can see it in my default pic a little. But I also have a fuel cell n the fire wall for the tank in the trunk to b nhra legal

Mount it to the frame like the rules say. Any competent NHRA official would see right through what you were doing if you mounted it to the loose MDF board. Not to mention if you actually got into an accident you'd have a 50lb projectile flying toward you at high velocity. Something that heavy would tear right off a wooden board like that in an accident, especially since the floor cover isn't even bolted down.

That was my other thought, but this box is unnecessarily large so the bottom of it is wider than the available space behind the seats. But I guess I'll have to look into that spot better. If this box was specifically made for my size battery I bet I would have an easier time finding a good spot.

When i went home on lunch i checked out the spot behind the seats. Only half of the box fits before it hits the seats so the other half is overhanging. The only place i can see it fitting while bolting to the frame is where the washer resevoir sits. Even still i'll have to cut out the metal supports for it to make enough room. Does that sound like the only feasible option?

Make a bracket that goes down to the floor n bolt or weld it in. And cut the wood thing to slide in around the bracket under the box

It's the moroso box, which seems like its about an inch taller and an inch+ wider than other boxes on the market. I didnt really think size was going to be too much of an issue. Im probably just going to try and mount it where the washer resevoir sits to have it done right. I dont even use the washer nozzles anyway. And maybe i'll be able to keep the wooden floor on top of it to retain usability of the trunk.

Edit: Well I cut out the support for the washer resevoir and that's still not enough room for this behemoth to fit. You can see it fits perfect when it's just the battery in both spots but those couple inches that the box takes up makes it not work in either spot. Should I just eat the 70$ for the box and get a smaller one?

Edit2: I decided just to get this http://www.summitracing.com/parts/tay-48200 after realizing how giant the moroso box is. This aluminum one should fit in either location and is a perfect fit for the redtop.
