I have been wanting to relocate my battery to where the stock smic was at. I just want to get it out of the engine bay to clean up some space. My question is if I relocate it here do I have to run a wire all the way to the rear of the car for a kill switch or does the switch rule only apply if I relocate it inside the car? I haven't been able to find anything on this so any info would be great.
Thanks.

I don't think you'd have to have a cut off switch if the battery is mounted there. I'm planning on going to Irwindale tonight and I'll try to remember to ask the tech guy what he thinks.

Nope, only need a kill switch if it's inside the cabin. Has to be separated from the driver by a fire wall is how it is worded I think.

If you could do that it'll be great thanks dustin.

I haven't read the actual rulebook but everything I've read about it just says a relocated battery requires it. And I'm not sure if I want to run the wire all the way back there.

Does anyone have the actual rule book to see what it says exactly?

Thanks for the info guys. It makes sense that it wouldn't since its not inside the cabin but I just want to make sure before I do it.

From the 2011 rule book:

8:4 MASTER CUTOFF
Mandatory when battery is relocated, or as outlined in Class
Requirements. An electrical power cutoff switch (one only) must be
installed on the rearmost part of each vehicle and be easily
accessible from outside the car body. This cutoff switch must be
connected to the positive side of the electrical system and must
stop all electrical functions including magneto ignition. The off
position must be clearly indicated with the word "OFF." If switch is
"push/pull" type, "push" must be the action for shutting off the
electrical system, "pull" to turn it on. Any rods or cables used to
activate the switch must be minimum 1/8-inch diameter. Plastic or
keyed switches prohibited. Switches and/or controls must be
located behind rear wheels on rear-engine dragsters.

This sounds like it means yes I do need it, but it doesn't make sense since its farther from the driver and has a firewall in between.

Doesn't need to make sense, it's their sandbox. :) I guess they are trying to bypass any electrical problems from people messing with stock electrics.

I asked the tech at our local track which follows nhra rules. The tech said if I relocate the battery outside the cabin I do not need a kill switch. But if I put it outside the frame rails I would have to put a tube around it to protect the battery.
So idk if I'm gonna put it where I had planned. Its back to the drawing board.
