hi guyz

I have a 99 rs and a ractive 4.5" muffler, I brought it used and it quits on me some times like when I push gas/WOT it goes like vrooooo cough cough cough rooommm . LOL ? but um so I am getting new headers. probally pacesetters headers. and am thinking of which setup's to go with to get GROWL like really good LOUD sound that kinda will turn heads. plz keep in mind that I am trying it get everything done under $300. no flames plz.

1) put new headers , get custom mandrel bent piping and I have 2.5" piping so I will take that up to 3" and TAKE THE CAT out and use straight pipe with the existing ractive muffler.

2) put new headers , get custom mandrel bent piping and I have 2.5" piping so I will take that up to 3" and Keep existing CAT out and use straight pipe with the existing ractive muffler. OR GET a new ebay exhaust?

I have alwayz wanted a dual exhausts' like TWO 4.5" mufflers on each side. how hard would that be to do? and would it make it loud?

thanks guys :)

First, i dont kno about the dual exhaust, but IMO wouldnt u lose power since its only 4 cylidners?

Second, if ure gonna go w/ pacesetter might as well go wit ssautochrome off of ebay

Third, if u live in a state wit emissions standards keep ure cat, if u dont n r like me take that biotch off LOL

Fourth, IMO if i were u i would get the header, whichever desgin suits u best (4-1 top end, 4-2-1 low end) n then (if u live in a state w/ emissions get a hi-flow cat) hook the header up to the hi--flow cat n get a cat-back exhaust 2.5" piping, that should sound mean ( i have header (4-1) and from the header back jus straight pipes w/ no cat, gotta love FL :thumb:

o yeah I live half an hour from "orlando" I assume you know that and our state doesnt have an emission laws does it? also I heard it smells like ass if you take the cat off so? what you think?

TRUE! u should come down for our South FLorida DSM meets, but back on topic.

I dont have a cat n my car dosent smell like ass, it smells like gasoline tho, like not a real strong scent, but its definetly not ass. Yes you and i have the same emissions law, we do not have to go through emission testing altho i wouldnt go and tell the officer u don't have a cat on the car.

I think the muffler is gonna have the biggest impact on the sound.
MAGNAFLOW :thumb:
$100 for mine

miamieclipse: I would love to but the problem is that I am only "17" seventeen years old + work all day friday so I cant come to the meets + my parents wont let me drive more than 5 miles since I've had a dui.

didnt mean to hijack my own thread but

miamieclipse: what would be the consenquences if the officer checks for the cat and he cant find one? not that there are chances for that just just be on safe side.

GSGoinFast: thanks for the opinion. Ive searched and ppl have been using magnaflow. my ractive is pretty deep but it chokes and only think I can hear is the intake/engine at more then 3k rpm. I am trying to get something that would like kinda make ppl turn heads even on low rpms ( speaking theoricitally <- wrong spelling.) deep LOUD rumble. so I have decided that I will go with ss autochrome headers + 3" custom mandrel bent piping ( mine is 2.5" stock right now and bumping it to 3" will make more air flow therefore making the muffler louder) NO cat conv and I am not sure what muffler to go with. magnaflow? ractive? ebay one or I mean keeping in mind that I have limited amount of money to spend.

thanks for your help guys

true, i am 17 too, i live in miami but the meets r in broward n i heard (dont take my word on it) but they might move it to west palm beach (NOT SURE ABOUT IT THO!), dunno how far that is from u now.

Second, i think the reason ure ractive chokes @ 3k is cause its not gettin enuff power so IMO i think u should go to a muffler shop and have them custom make piping from the cat-back to ure muffler. I would get a header and a hi-flow cat off ebay (meghan racing cat, ssautochrome header IMO) that wya if u ever get pulled over be like officer look, theres the cat hehe (even tho its a flo-thru design 2.5" diameter all the way) So yea thats what i would do, thats what i did. In fact i have a meghan racing hi-flow cat, never used cuz i decided to go wit striaght pipes for some more power. Let me kno if ure interested AIM:mnf155, email: [email protected]

Im out

I was thinkin about something like this

would this really cause power loss?

these are dual revolution battle advantage mufflers

yep. big power loss on the low end side. even removing your cat unless you have supporting mods is gonna rob your low end.

so what would you do if you were in place of me jl98. can you give me your opinion.

thanks so much. ;)

here's what i did to mine. i ordered a dtm dual tip muffler from ebay. i was going to wait until it arrived and go to my local custom exhaust shop and have them make me a 3" full exhaust but i got impatient. i ended up removing and gutting my cat, putting it back on with the stock exhaust and muffler just to see what happened. it was raspy, buzzy and annoying as hell especially around 2k-3.5k. off came the gutted cat, on went the straight pipe. no difference in sound from the gutted cat and no gains above stock yet. so then my muffler came in and i went to the shop and had my stock muffler cut off and we put the new muffler on just to check the tone before we did anything else. huge improvement on the sound from the free flowing muffler but we didnt take it off the lift to check any power gains. then we did the 3" setup with the new muffler. loved the sound. i could stand 5-10 ft. away and feel waves coming off. very deep. drove it 45 min home on the interstate and i did notice my revs were coming up quicker. drove it around town for a few days and i noticed it stole lots of my bottom end. i couldn't have that so i went back in and dropped it down to 2.5" piping with a resonator in. it now sounds very deep at idle and low rpm, deep with a little cackle/rumble in the 2k-3k range, and full out throaty screaming if i get on it 3.5k or more. i love the sound, its pretty intense and theres nothing like it around here anyway. i regained some more low end after i brought it down to 2.5". i still want to put probably a high-flow cat back on- HOLD ON NEED MORE SPACE-

to provide some more back pressure or scavenging, whatever, but i did learn bigger is not always better, especially with non-turbos. also to get that dual exhaust you want its going to probably be pretty costly/time-consuming considering the non-existence of work or free space under our cars. looks like you would need a different fuel tank or modify the hell out your existing one just to route another pipe to the right side. plus you have very little room to work with in the area of the cat- in front and behind- that it would be pretty damn hard to get that y-split in there. i would have loved to go dual exhaust on mine as well, but my car needs a hell of a lot more power, and i need a hell of a lot more money before it will produce any positive results. plus i've got a monsterous CAI some other mods i havent taken the time to list yet, and 2.5" single pipe is more than enough. maybe a 4-2-1 header might help the scavenging process and i can say screw off to the back pressure but we'll see. by the way, if you wanted to hear what my setup sounds like before you go spending too much money, send me a PM and i'll give you my phone number and i'll go out to my driveway and let her rip for you.

damn. hail is coming down pretty decent and it almost looks like we might be getting a tornado now. so if you do want to hear my exhaust today you might get an added bonus. anyway, i've also noticed if i shoot up my rpms real quick under load and drop off the gas for a split second and hammer back on my friends driving behind me have said they noticed a little ghost puff of flame. which looks mean as hell when you chirp your tires at 65. the only downside i've noticed is that the honda boys seem to always be "preoccupied" with something out of their opposite window when im sitting next to them. ha

hey man.

I really really appreciate your help. I pmed you.

thanks again very much you guys

i don't have a header yet. I'd like a nice 4-2-1 setup though. and yes, i put a resonator in my exhaust setup, the pitch didn't seem right without it. just my experience though.
