Hey all, just a quick question for all the racers out here.

Currently I'm building my 1g 6bolt strictly for drag. The car will never be street driven, as it will never pass Colorado emissions. That being said, i have a few questions.

I am currently building the top end. Due to the previous owner, the head was destroyed due to oil starvation. The Cam journals, and everything were destroyed, as well as the caps. I found the culprit, the oil pan was dented upwards. So the oil pump was barely getting anything. I'm worried the turbo took a toll as well.

I have bought a new head, and oil pan. The block, and pistons are fine.

I am buying an Holset hx35, with matching exhaust manifold. I will be putting in some 272 cams, for now, till i decide to go bigger. Since i will only be racing the car 1/4 mile at a time, is an Fmic necessary? Will the car get hot enough in that few seconds for it to matter? Or will i just be addingunnecessary
weight?
Secondly, I've got am aem fuel rail on its way. But, I'm having difficulty deciding what brand, and size injectors i should be running.

Also, I'm running 6es plugs,i read allot for autocross, and street, people run 7es, is that the same for drag?

Lastly, what purpose does a welded front diff serve?
 
First you need to decide roughly how much horsepower you're shooting for. A FMIC will be necessary unless you decide to go crazy and run straight methanol. You also need to choice a fuel you want to run. Both (hp/fuel) will determine the size of injector you want to run. Your spark plugs again depend on the fuel you would want to run. I made 421hp on 7es's on 93 octane pump gas. Welding the front diff has the same purpose of welding a rear diff.

Good choice on the holset! A FMIC will definitely be necessary even for just a track car. Intake temps will get up there and your car will start to knock as a result. As far as the injectors, it depends on what gas you are running. If you run e85 which I highly recommend, I would go with FIC 2150s. I run them and have nothing but great things to say about the product and the customer support. IF you choose pump gas I would still get a fairly large injector as people have had no problems running the 2150s with pump. The spark plugs also depend on what gas you will be using.

I was intending on running 100 octane "race gas" ( thats how the gas station advertises it) its technically pump gas, but nearly 7 dollars a gallon. Would this be a practical approach? Or should i pursue e85?

Money isn't much of an issue, (to an extent) and I'm open to suggestions. But, I've never ran anything but pump 91, 100, or 105. Never done methanol, or e85.

E85 is a safe choice if you are wanting bigger numbers. You could run 1650 inj and a rewired wally with AEM fuel rail. Of course a FPR wouldnt hurt and maybe even a fuel lab fuel filter, also you may want to upgrade fuel lines as well.:thumb:

Side note: e85 is usually a good difference cheaper than pump and especially race gas!

But again it comes down to what your goals are.

e85 requires larger injectors than if you were running 91 pump gas , you would want a minimum of 1200cc or larger depending on your goals. What fuel pump are you running?

Its stronger and less likely to break.
