On my 95 Eclipse Rs i dropped the catalytict converter and welded a pipe in the center of it :shhh: . So basicaly its just a shell "for looks". So i keep on hearing that u have to have some back pressure in the exhasut. So by welding that pipe its straight thru does anybody think that it will harm my head any by not having any back preassure. I know this is a newbie question but this is something i dont know a hole lot about is exhaust. But im working on it. Anyways i hope somebody will be able to tell me a lil about this.

Removing the Catalytic convertor will not destroy your back pressure. It will reduce it yes but if you've got 2.5" piping or less then you've still got enough to promote scavenging. Scavenging is the ability of one cylinder's exhaust to draw out another cylinders exhaust thus speeding up the flow. You'll be ok.

What would be the effect of doing this on the high end and low end power? Acceleration? Im getting ready to do this myself and am curious what i should expect. (already running a 2.5" catback and modified open airbox)

makes low end not as good makes high end a little better :thumb:

Eh, loss of low end doesnt seem worth the trouble, especially when racing is mostly low end to start with anyways...
Any way to get a good balance? A high flow cat maybe?

high flow cat is the best bet, but they are a bit on the pricey side, if you plan to run a turbo its all good because the turbo will create all the back pressure you need :thumb:

my 1g had a 2.5 exhaust, pacesetter header, and a test pipe on my 1g. had a injen intake and i could bake the front tires right off. had mass low and and some of my turbo friends told me i had the torqiest n/t ever.

it doesnt kill low end at all. actually helped mine a bit

 grrr... damnit, not everyone has a killer car like yours!!!!

so after all the best thing would be a high flow cat, but does it work with a stock pipe?
and also you can get high flow cat off ebayfor like $19, now are those cats reliables?

taking off your cat is not a good idea, it's gonna destroy the atmosphere and then were all gonna die :thumbdown

I just removed the cat and put in a striaght pipe on my 2g junk box. I have headers exhaust and intake. I felt a big difference when i junked the cat. Yeah you kill the atmosphere but where all gonna die anyway. Also if you do this, in the winter crack your windows when u start the car, u will get a headache from the noxious gases leaking in your car. LOL. you'll smell the difference haha

i knwo the smell greatly

my jeep had a amc 360, 600cfm carb, performer intake, hedman fender well headers with custom 18 inch long side pipes. only the muffler abtou 14 inches away from the header. i used to smell liek straight gas when i got out of it driving it around the block

i called it clogne de petrol
