Im having some difficulties getting the the eye bolt of the top part of the filter I have the 3/4 wrench below to counter it and not bend the fuel lines but it will not budge at all. Is it supposed to be on there that tight? I dont want to force it and bend the lines or break something. Anyone else have this problem?

Yeah it's effing tight. Just make sure you use the wrench on the bottom for counter force. It will come loose.

Answer to all your problems = air tools. :thumb:

gr8 thnxs a bunch!

If you think the line on top is fun to get off wait till you get to the one on the bottom.

I find removing the battery support and the emissions equipment underneath it makes getting leverage on the bottom line a lot easier. Good luck!

Yeah thats the one im on now I though about taking the support and the canister off too. I probably will. such a pain  LOL

Yes, the bottom line is a huge PITA.

Don't worry; its completely normal to curse and throw tool during the process.
Mine took me a full 2 hours to replace and I hated every second of it. You will walk away with 10 busted knuckles, not one ounce of patience left in your body, and an addition of four new swear words in your personal vocabulary, but at least the job will be done.

Damn 1G's. They get theirs on the upper portion of the firewall, hence, no pain and suffering.

YES! Complete PITA....The second time I had to do it, i just paid the shop the $50

How often do they need changed. The old one thats on there right now is a wix. So it's been changed before but I figure since I don't know how long its been its time to replace it.
After taking a lil brake I went out and finally got the canister and the support out of there so I can get the bottom off.

P.S. I changed the plugs last week and they all had a light white coat (maybe running a lil lean?) Could the filter be the cause?

ROFL ............

No really, he's serious. I'm just surprised that Mitsubishi didn't mount it right next to a bee's nest just to make things even more interesting.

With a wobble extension or a universal, you should be able to extend a ratchet enough to get leverage and bust the top bolt loose. Just be sure to replace the washers. It sucks when you get everything back together and the %^$&$ thing is leaking gas.

question. Do you have to use a line wrench cuz i was just using a 14mm wrench and it slipped. I dont want to strip it so what would be the best solution?

It's not mentioned in the Owner's Manual service schedule. Gasoline goes into the tanker through a filter, out of the tanker through a filter, and into the tank from the station's pump through a filter. Unless something happens, a filter the size of a DSM's should go an easy 200,000 miles.
Ah, but some people think injectors get dirty, too. Usually people who get money from you for "cleaning" them.
If someone else was industrious and conscientious enough to put on a WIX, I'd leave it at that.

well it took me to mess things up, i messed up the bottom flare nut, i used a flared line wrench and still stripped out the fitting and I PB blasted that piece of .... So now what?? can i cut and replace a section of the feed line with rubber or something equivalent, and i also want to go to an aftermarket fuel filter maybe aem or mr gasket so when i do fix the line this doesnt happen again...:D

Yes, there are all those filters.. but some how... I managed to get about 30 little pieces of rubber in the tank of my motorcycle from filling up at 76 station once.... Needless to say, I was quite upset.

so i guess im going to go with a -6an ss braided hose from tank to aftermarket filter then to fuel rail since i searched :thumb: , but my other question is what size fuel hose because summit sells 3/8 in. diamtere hose but only holds 50psi so im guessing i can only go with the -6an and then piece together fittings right??

-6 and 3/8" are the same size. Stainless braided -6 hose has a 1000 PSI max operating pressure, so you won't have anything to worry about if you go that route.

i forgot to add I think I might just go with some blue fuel hose instead of stainless but -8 AN , a couple of " Race car drivers" I know think stainless is too heavy, and the blue stuff is alott cheaper.

You don't need -8 unless your putting down 800 to the wheels. -6 is plenty big enough for most DSMers on this site.

And I've eaten meals that weigh more than the weight difference between the braided and unbraided hose. Braided hose may cost a little more, but I wouldn't stretch to say it's "too heavy".

Hey 1gdsm4g63, what did you find out? I was thinking of starting this now, but since I heard about all the struggles, I'll wait until tomorrow...

I just replaced my fuel filter, but now it's not starting up. Do you need to do something before to get the fuel pressure or get the line filled?

You may need to crank it a bit longer to prime the system. That's all you would need to do though. If that doesn't do the trick, then verify that you didn't kink the hardline upon installation of the new filter element.
