Question on my starter i pulled out of my 420a

Hello again everyone, finally got time to pul the starter and needless to say, its chewed up..when i got the last bolt holding it in loose, i heard something drop through under the car, I picked it up and it was a head that broken off a bolt, it also was chewed up. im wondering if the grinding noise that i was getting when i turned my key was the bolt head lodged in between the starter and the plate that covers most of my flywheel... what do you all think? My car is a 95' Talon ESI automatic transmission. Thanks

I would say you are probably right, check to make sure all your torque converter bolts are there and none of them are broken, that would almost have to be the only place it could of came from.

Where exactly are the bolts located for the torque converter? Im new to this type of issue, never touched a thing when it comes to auto trans. This is the first auto I have owned, so im a lil lost

Do you have the head of the bolt? Torque converter bolts are short and have a "+" imprinted on the head. There should be 4 bolts total. Pull the inspection plate off of the bottom of the tranny and turn the crank to reveal each of the converter bolts. The grinding noise could have been a combination of a bad starter, the broken bolt or worn teeth on the torque converter itself. You do not have a flywheel.

Technically he has a flex plate.

+1 on removing the inspection plate and check to make sure all 4 converter bolts are there.
