I've seen Jake Lathem's write-up on his FRH manifold install. I noticed he went through the trouble of tapping the manifold and using studs to mount the power transistor to the manifold. My question: is there a reason why one should not use the bolts that hold the plemum to the runners? I was thinking of just making a few brackets and bolting them to the manifold using the same bolts (well, probably longer versions of those bolts). It would basically be the same as using washers. Any reason why this would be a bad idea?

Here are the bolts I'm talking about:

I dont have this manifold, but I would think as long as its torqued the same you should be ok with brackets..If anything tapping and creating weaker spots in the material is worse, but I doubt that has happend either. I would go with brackets like you stated.

just tap into the flange for some 6mm bolts like he did. Thats the cleanest way id say. Sure what you want to do will work but looks alot better his way. All depends on the work you want to do

He actually tapped into the plenum, not the flange:

I would just rather not drill more holes into the plenum if I can avoid it.

I don't see a problem with that Chris. As long as it holds boost, what else is there to worry about? Fabricate a bracket and you should be fine.

oh i didnt see that. Yea thats your call, im sure it would be fine but those are not pipe threads tapped into it so they arent made to seal. Either way thats damaging the intake. Should be fine either way though its strictly a personal choice id say.

It should work just fine but I personally would use a flat washes and a lock washer on top of that to prevent them from coming loose. The flat washer is there to spread the load of the fastener and the lock washer just because you are adding a bracket that will vibrate more than a bolt alone. This extra vibration will tend to loosen the bolt over time.

Good, as that's what I'm going to do. I picked up a few longer bolts today and I think it will turn out quite nice. Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll post a write up (with pics) once it's done.

I made a coil pack and igniter holder for my setup out of sheetmetal and used the bolts to hold it in place.

I'll take pics and post them if I can remember tonight.

So how do you guys like the Forester Mani? I was thinking about buying one, and didn't want to worry about the problems of a sheet metal mani. I was lookin toward the Jackson Racing mani.

Thanks,
Marc

Alright, I'm a little stumped. With this manifold or any other SMIM, doesn't it move the TB at a different location and you would have to modify the UICP?

Yes it does move it, usually down a few inches.

Hey Ludachris, what tps sensor did you use on that throttle body? Is that a mustang throttle body?
