question bout buying a car

1995 talon with rebuilt motor and a few mods. but has a grinding noise which he thinks is either the transfer case or front diff? does that sound about right? anything i should look for in particular to figure out what the noise is? thanks

Need more info. Does it happen in all gears? Does it happen at all speeds?
