I recently pulled my turbo off and i noticed some cracks in the turbine housing near the wastegate passage. Ive been chasing a boost leak for months and havent been able to find it. Could the cracks in the turbine housing cause it to leak out? Ive also been looking to replace the housing and was wondering if all the tdo5 housings are all the same? I know its a 16g but im not postive if its a big or small 16g. Any help is very appreciated.

it won't be a boost leak, but an exhaust leak, and your car will spool slower depending on how back the cracking is. mhi 16gs came with an inconel steel alloy that shouldn't have that happen, whereas cast iron would, so maybe it's a knockoff turbo?

Yeah, right. I've seen far more MHI turbine housings crack after mileage as little as 5k than knockoff housings with 20k on them.

The standard MHI turbine housings (6cm, 7cm) crack like hell where the MHI Evo III housings have a higher nickel content and are much less prone to cracking, but the Evo III housings have chronic problems with the threads pulling out of the mounting holes.

jusmx141 im not sure if i have a big or a small 16g. Im just wondering if the evoIII turbine housing will fit?

Absolutely. You can even pick up one of the knockoff 16G housings from eBay brand new for less than $100; it will clamp right on. You'll need to port the wastegate hole a little and shim your actuator to fit properly, but the price is right on the money compared to a $300 MHI housing.

I guess this is a chronic problem eh? Both my 14b and small 16g have this problem. Is there anyway too prevent this? I'm assuming that putting on a larger dp and exhaust to disperse heat faster must help?
