question about China Evo III GT

a friend of mine wrecked his gst, i wanted his evo III and found out it was the EVO III GT china crap for turbo.. my question is, since his car is wrecked he wants to sell it for cheap will it be worth buying if i got a REAL Evo III 16g rebuild kit for it?

If you're hesitant about the evo iii GT "crap" turbo, buying a "REAL" evo iii rebuild kit will not make it any better. The CHRA, compressor and turbine housing will all still be "crap".

how cheap is cheap? Some people have liked the turbo, if you can get a good enough deal it might be worth trying

basically what i have gotten out of all the discussions between the two is this.... what we know about the mhi evoiii is that it is a reliable, well performing turbo that is a great upgrade for our cars, and what we know about the evoiii gt is... nothing.... they put on a larger flapper and the turbine housing has a larger port, but until people start buying this turbo and directly compairing it with an evoiii that they had or have, we wont be able to know how they perform differently/similarly, and if the evoiii gt breaks down after two days we know its crap, and if it lasts 12 years, we know it isnt,... but that will take 12 years for us to know for sure....

I havent heard of any catostrophic failures of hte China turbo, so you really cant label it as a POS. Its all of its competetitors that have labeled it a POS, liek slowboy and hte others (im not hating on slowboy, im waiting for a mani, o2 housing, and blowthrou setup from them, just an example)

The fact is, its cheaper, supposedly as good and if you can get it for cheap, go for it. Thats my 2cents

y does it need a rebuild?

just buy the GT and smoke them tires. I already know of at least 3 cases that are putting down over 260whp with the GT. Still too early to tell for reliability, but so far so good.

Slowboy was not knocking it as a competitor, IMHO: they were gonna sell it, then realized it would be bad for business, and decided not to.

Then they posted info on it so we would know the difference, and make an informed decision.

If you get it really cheap, and can do the install yourself, go for it. I would wait for the rebuid, if it's working right now.

1, 260 seems kinda low for this type of turbo, are they not tuned, or are they just running liek stock exaust and intake and such? 2, ive always been a strong believer in you get what you pay for, so thats why i will be buying a mhi, but you can get a gt if you are willing to take a risk,... its like gambling, you might get something really good, you might not... who knows

I would give it a shot if i got a good deal on it.It's not chinese, it's from taiwan,stop laughin man,there is a difference! .On a serious note,there's a very good and heated thread on here about this turbo,and although i'm still spectical on this turbo,every turbo has it's price.
