Putting a turbo in 1991 FWD 2.0

Well I can buy a stock turbo and manifold from someone for only $200. Both are in good condition and I was wondering if it's worth putting it on a FWD 5 speed. What else would I have to add besides a boost gauge? I've heard about changing the compression, is this hard? Or Should I just leave the car N/T and look into buying a AWD turbo in a couple years?

This'll get you started on what you need. You'll definitely need a boost gauge, a logger, upgrade to 450cc injectors, rewired fuel pump to begin with. You'll want the logger to keep an eye on the knock readings because those pistons are not tolerant of detonation and you'll kill your motor if you don't know what you're doing.

You'll actually have to get a knock sensor and install it because the 2.0 NT's don't have one. There is a hole for it on the block but I'm pretty sure the ecu is not set-up to read knock so you can't see it with a logger.

The second link is good info but he actually swapped engines, he just wants to swap manifolds, bolt up the turbo and go. It won't be that easy.

If you want to do it right, get some 1G turbo pistons, put them on your stock rods, and put them into your motor.....with some new rings of coarse.

You need a turbo ecu as well so it can control the bigger injectors, and pull timing if you are knocking.

I have half-assed it on a previous car, and it was more headaches than it was worth, cuz you will get greedy with boost.

If you are patient, you can find EVERYTHING you need for a complete swap for $800-$1000. And that incuded a the new oil and antifreeze...

Do it right the first time and ENJOY!!!!!!

I personally wouldn't do it. You still have to get a turbo intake with MAF, intercooler of some sort, tap for all your feed and return lines... in the end you will just wish you would have waited to get a turbo car but it's up to you.

I agree! sell the n/t and buy a turbo car! they can be had pretty cheap!
