Right now i have the stock exhaust on and it is very rusty and has many holes in it. So i have decided to go with the 3" turbo back. Im going to buy a downpipe off ebay. My problem begins with the cat/test pipe the local muffler shop won't work on my car if i have a test pipe but i really don't want to spend $125 on a cat and $70 on a testpipe. I am taking it to the muffler shop because they are going to make me a limited bend from catback to finish the exhaust. What do you guys think i should do? Im going for more of the cheap end i could buy an apexi but id rather not spend 900 i think 500-600 is plenty. I would like to hear what you guys have to say. Thanks

So buy a high-flow cat for $100 from RRE, have the muffler shop weld bolt-on flanges to either end, then make the rest of the cat-back for you. It's not *quite* as free-flowing as a testpipe, but it's damn close, and it's legal.

And who the hell would pay $75 for a testpipe?! It's just a damn length of pipe with flanges on either end. Order one from Megan Racing (they sell 3" SS downpipes that neck down to 2.5" to bolt up to the stock O2 housing, as well) and have the muffler shop weld the flanges on the high-flow cat the same way, so you can swap them out if you really, actually need the tiny bit of restriction a high-flow cat imposes gone. And if you aren't in the 600-club, you don't need it gone THAT badly.

A 3" downpipe will bolt right to the stock o2 houseing correct? I was told that it would. And what is RRE do you have there website? Thanks guys for your help

I have RRE's long downpipe that eliminates the cat and just makes it one long pipe bolted on to Apexi's N1 catback. Thier downpipes are not 3"s all the way, they are 2 1/2" before the flex and 3" after the flex. As for their website - www.roadraceengineering.com

I bought a Apexi WS2 Cat back, eBay O2 housing, eBay Downpipe, eBay universal catalytic converter, and 2 exhaust flanges (from extremePSI.com). I just cut and welded the downpipe to make it shorter, welded the flanges on the catalytic converter and bolted up the entire set. I had my dad do the welding cause he has a welder and 20+ years experience welding. The whole job took 8 hours between the two of us. I just did this yesterday, so the car isn't running yet because I still have some other unrelated work to do on the car. But once the car is up and running I'll post a video of the exhaust so you can see and hear it. Cheers, and best of luck. Tom.

I have a 3" VRS. It's kinda pricey, but it's 3" from the 02 housing and bolted up nicely. The 3" high-flow Magnaflow cat is a nice $100 option, and it's damn near see through. Only a screen at the inlet and outlet.

How far are you from JMFabrications? (Hatfield, PA) I actually went with a Meghan Racing DP (3" got it off eBay for $70 shipped awesome) + Race Cat (really an extension of the DP since Jim from JM made it for me) + RSR*R 3" Exhaust so I pretty much have a true 3" exhaust. If you can find a shop near you to do custom fabrication on cars I would go that route of extending your DP and just getting the flange to fit the exhaust you are going with. When all said and done with labor/flange/material it ended up being the same price as a race cat and the install was done for me.

i would take it to a different shop then. LOL if a shop ever told me they didn't wanna do certain work i paid them to do and asked them to do i would say okay you've just lost my bussiness

Or you can do like me and by a 3in DP and then buy an electric exhaust cut out and just have them weld the cutout onto the 3in DP and take it home and install it yourself, and connect it to your stock exhaust and leave the cat so theyd do the work and youd be able to still pass emissions...

Therefore open dp when cutout open for maximum power, and stock exhaust when cutout closed... Very convinent and sleeperish... But i mean thats just me, most would find this odd... :)

Do research if an electronic exhaust bypass/cutout is legal in your area... if someone's caught with one of those on the road out here in People's Republic of California, it's an instant impound of the car and a very hefty fine... just having it on the car (even if it's closed) is 100% illegal in CA.

Be careful about using aftermarket exhausts with aftermarket sway bars not all will clear 3inch catbacks.

yea that would suck, luckily Fl doesnt test for emissions or have any strict exhaust laws...
My whole purpose is to have chill mode and get on it mode with the car, while being able to lessen myself as a target for a cop by having a loud exhaust all the time with a huge shiney fart can hanging off the back...
