I'm gearing up to do my build and still looking for the best car to start with. There are TONS of cars on craigslist for sale that claim to have the engine rebuilt within like 500 miles. Do you think this is something to be concerned about? Who rebuilds a motor just to sell the car immediately? I'm concerned these are bad rebuilds. Anyone have thoughts on this? Anything to look at specifically related to this when I go check out the car?

Ask for paperwork on the engine, part numbers, clearances ect should be there. The shop's name that did the build or machine work.

Honestly unless they have paperwork proving everyone done it's a scam. I went to go buy a camaro when the guy said 1k miles on rebuilt 350 long block. I did a compression test and the engine was barely alive. It's sad what people say to sell a car today.

As the saying goes. "If it sounds too good to be true, then it is".

I've run across many people who would rebuild an engine, rod bearing starts spinning due to improper assembly. Then they give up, sell the car and claim that the engine has recently been rebuilt and "only needs new rod bearings".

That's exactly what I'm afraid of. I'd almost rather buy an untouched bottom end - (since I'm planning on running it stock temporarily) than wonder why they're selling they're newly rebuilt car.

I did a Vin search on a guy selling his "TSi turbo" yesterday and it was ESi. Shady fn people.
