Pull the trans or leave it in?

'Is it easier to put a motor in with the tranny bolt up to motor, or leave it in the car. i have the trans in but i think i want to pull it and bolt it up to the motor before i put it in. does anybody know whats easiest?

just leave them together. if you have a levaling crank (not sure what its really called) you can pull them out together real easy. If not you can still leave them together and slide them ut the bottem. I've done it both ways and either way takes about the same amount of time and skill.

it really comes down to what you prefer and if you have a hoist or not. if you did put both in connected you would either have to pull it up from the bottom of the bay, or put it in from the top at a really good angle to get the tranny to clear the tranny mount. either ways can be done.

i personally dont have a hoist of any sort, but my preference is pullin both the engine and tranny up from underneath the engine bay unconnected, mount the engine and then connect the tranny to the engine then mount the tranny. it seems really straight forward and easy to me. but like i said. its only what you think you would be most comfortable with.

Its easier to pull them out together and put them in together with the crank pulley and accessory pulleys off.

Pull them with the tranny side down at about a 30-40* angle.

I don't have a leveler and haven't had an issue and I've done it 3 times now. The SOB is pretty heavy, and my wife helped me the last time. :D

I pulled and installed the engine with a hoist, left the tranny in place. I left the tranny in because it seemed too much of hassle to deal with the half shafts. But judging from the other posts, it looks like it's pretty easy either way. I had a problem with the oil galley plug (shot right out first time I fired it up) at the tranny side of the block and had to pull it again. Had it out and back in by the end of the day...pretty easy.

I remember having a bi*** of a time w a 5spd in a 420. The tranny clutch alignment tool wasnt worth a shit and I couldnt imagine trying to bolt it up while the tranny was bolted in the car. If you had a lift I would have just dropped them out the bottom. Cake I could do a 420 in and out in about 2 1/2 hours

We have a modular clutch.....we don't need a clutch alignment tool....maybe that's why you had a hard time....
