So just wondering if anyone has any input on the 5558 dual bb turbo? Been pretty set on a green hta but now considering the 5558. Looking for info on spool diferences and what would be bettet for 400whp on 93 pump?

Theres only like one other guy ive seen on here running a "smaller" pte. Me being one of them.
I run a 5858 JB but no dyno time. I would suggest something bigger. I regrett not going witht he 6266. But to each his own. I think 400whp on 93 is do-able as long as ambient temps arent above 80*. The colder the better, you know what these cars like, we all do.

Reliability wise: Almost 5k on it, no smoke, no play. Its a bit laggy but ive only owned a t25 and then the 5858 so my references are very limited. I can pull logs for you latert and tell you when i hit 20,25,30 psi. Let me know, gotta run to work now

For reference, I hit 25psi on my JB HTA Green at about 4200rpm during a 3rd gear pull from 2k.

I thought the lag was aweful at first, but I was coming from a FPBig-T-28. You learn to adapt and drop gears more, and once it hits...

Coupe Nasty,

I have run both the PTE 5557E (HTA Journal Bearing), and the Green XL back to back. The 57 and 58 are VERY close in terms of performance. Here are my findings:

Both turbos were able to push over 47 Lbs/Min of air on 93 octane pump gas. Both turbos were very similar in what they made on the dyno with just straight pump gas, which was around 350 WHP. On Windshield washer fluid injection, they both made in the 355 WHP range. On a mix of 50/50 water/methanol, I was able to get an easy 394 WHP with the Green XL. This was on a DynoJet dyno, and the car was breathing dirty air in the dyno. It took 45.1 Lbs/Min to push these numbers. Immediately after the dyno session, the Green XL made 47.5 Lbs/Min on the street, so the turbo is more than capable of over 400 WHP with meth. Straight pump gas would require a lot more than just 264 cams, which is what I ran. The 5557 did edge out the Green XL slightly in terms of airflow, but there are three reasons why I would choose (and ultimately kept) the Green over the PTE.

1. Spool. The Green XL spools more than a few hundred RPM faster than the 5557E.

2. Transient response. In between shifts, the PTE was a dog. It took almost twice as long to reach peak boost on the track and the street as the green.

3. Size. The 5557E is a MASSIVE turbo for a medium frame. You will have to ditch your stock fans to get it to fit. Here's a pic comparing the size of the two.

The 5557e was not by any means a bad turbo. It's just that you get what you pay for, and the Green XL is a little better in more than a few ways.

My dyno results can be found here:

Hope this helps,
Matt

5858 fits with internal gate and stock fans. Just to clarify. I have the 3" inlet though, the t04sp might be a tiny bit bigger but still, with some trimming of the passenger fan for wg actuator arm it will fit just fine.
Im maxing out 52lbs/min on e85 ~32 psi. I dont think theres a whole lot left in it. The hot side being the choke point i believe. A t3 frame may net 5lbs more, at best.

All that said, if the green flows the same i would take a FP turbo over a PTE any day. The quality of the FP is guaranteed. The PTEs have a spotty record with quality control from what ive heard(or what has been repeated enough, who knows)

Bringing this thread back from the dead. Just letting you guys know I ended up going with the Fp green Hta Ball Bearing turbo. I absolutely love this turbo! I made 345whp and 315wtq on a dyno jet at 22psi on 93 octane. I'm on stock internals for now, but will be getting cams soon. I'm hoping with some Gsc s1's to reach 400whp. possibly s2's which I'm sure would get me there but I feel they may be too big for the rpm range I am looking for the green to shine in (4000-7000rpm).
