Problems with shift linkage!!! any tips?

i need some tips on how to get my shift linkage to stay connected. It is brand new linkage but it keeps popping off when im in first or second gear. I am new to dsm's so i don't know much about them, i don't know if it has something to do with the short throw i have in it (fidanza). Or if it is because i have some bad bushings in my shifter, that i haven't fixed yet but i have the parts ordered any tips?

How exactly is it popping off? i know on the stock shifters the cables just slide over the pins and then they use small cotter pins to hold the cable on. So is it happening at the shifter or the trans? Any pics would help too.

Your missing your retaining clips. They are commonly reffered to as cotter pins or cotter keys. Once you install them back into the shaft that the cable connects to it will not come off again.

The reason they're not there may be because there are little pieces of them broken off in the shaft to which they connect. Both of my transmission arms are like that, as is the one on my wastegate flapper arm. Try tapping them out first, but you'll probably have to drill them.

PS. Solid shifter bushings on the transmission end is a quick fix, since they don't allow enough flex to slip off. Though they will slide up a little when shifting.

the linkage is popping off on the transmission end and i already bought "DSM ultra stiff under hood bushings kit 2 piece" Was this the right part i hope so . so when i put these on it shouldn't pop off anymore? and will i need new pins that you guys were talking about for these new bushing thanks!

When you put them on, the cables should stop popping off. Problem won't be fixed until you get the pins on though, since there is still that little bit of slop. Cotter pins can be found at any hardware or automotive store, the ones you need are quite small.

Your kit should have came with cotter pins though. i know my Mach V transmission bushing kit did.
