Hey guys, I just installed a Fluidyne radiator and Flex-a-lite fans and now I am running hotter than stock. Before I did the swap, the stock radiator and fans ran at normal temperatures and it was fine. I then just upgraded to a Fluidyne because I am installing a new turbo and front mount intercooler. Does anyone have any input on this? When I did the swap, I took out the old radiator and fans and the hoses too. I installed the new fluidyne with flex-a-lite fans and greddy radiator hoses with a trust 1.6psi cap. When I started to run slightly hotter then stock I replaced the radiator cap with the stock one and it still didn't fix the problem. I also pressurized the system before taking it for a drive. Thanks for any input.

Is it possible that you dont have enough fluid in the system? I know after I did a turbo install and lost some fluid..not enough to make me think to refill it, I ran alittle hot so I had to pull over and top it off. All was well after that. Rule out the easy stuff first.

That makes sense, but I filled the overflow to normal levels and added more into the pipe with the radiator cap off. Then I ran the car with cap off until it got pressurized then I replaced the cap. It is still running a hair above the water symbol on the gauge. I know its supposed to be a hair below the symbol.

When you installed the radiator did you first let it idle with the rad cap off, and "blurp" the lower hose to get the air out of the system? If not you might have air pockets in the system, causing problems.

I did run the car with the radiator cap off, but I didn't squeeze the bottom hose. When the car warms up though, the top hose is hot but the bottom hose is cold. Is this normal??? Thanks for your input.

The top hose is the hot hose so yea thats correct also, I didnt read anything that said you actually filled the system not the over flow to the very top? Did you do that ?

I topped off the overflow, and I put the coolant in the pipe with the radiator cap. Is there any other place to put the coolant in that I forgot?

I always top off the rad pipe . That was my question to you, did you do that...top it off?

Also does it peg at just above the temp mark or is that all you let it get to? If so Maybe your fans are not comming on.

Yeah, I topped that off, would the higher psi radiator cap cause it to run a little hotter? I don't think it would, just curious.

I cant imagine that the cap would cause it to run hotter and even if it did you said you replaced it with the stocker anyhow. Why dont you try getting a colder thermostat ? They are like 8 bucks and its worth a shot.

I hope since you upgraded your cooling system, you replaced the T-Stat too.

The 1.6 that you referred to as psi is actually 1.6 Bar, it's metric.
1 Bar = 14.7 psi, so your cap is approximately 23psi.
I believe that would just cause your system to boil at a higher temp provided you didn't spring any leaks.

Trying sqeezing the bottom hose with the cap off while your car idles in the driveway.
This will cause air to escape the system.
And make sure when you're burping the system, you notice that your T-Stat opens.
With the cap off, you'll notice hot water rushing toward your radiator thru the upper hose.

Normal temp is just an RCH under the Temp Needle pointing directly at 9 o'clock.

Id try a colder thermostat first, that should solve the problem, I wouldnt think itd be the radiator, unless you do have a airbubble in the lower hose, it shouldnt be something too serious, but if neither of those works, I'd think the problem would be with the fans.

I checked for leaks, and there wasn't any. Also, I checked to see if the thermostat opened, and it did. After I blurped the bottom hose, it did fix the problem, so thats good. I appreciate the input guys. Also, for future reference, where can I get a colder thermostat?

I have the same setup, but never had this problem, interesting, and good to know... I actually run cooler, and I live in arizona, nothing but dessert, and a record breaking 110 without rain and counting....

Also make sure your fans are pulling, not pushing. Easy to miss detail, imho :thumb:

I was just about to post that after reading the other posts then I saw you had, but I had the same problem with my new radiator setup and the problem was the fans. Me and my genius self thought it would work better to have one pulling and one pushing. Went to 2 fans pulling and with my colder thermostat I had put in trying to fix the problem it was actually running too cool. Put the warmer thermostat back in there with the pulling fans and it did great.

Check NAPA or AutoZone. I think 180 Degrees is the coldest you can buy.

After i installed my koyo rad., no matter how hard i run the car the bottom hose is always cold. And my temps are a constant 198-200.

Thanks guys, Yeah my fans were pulling and they turn on with the ignition. I guess I'll go to Autozone and get a colder thermostat.
