problem with my starter 2nd one helpppppp

Hey guys
How you doing?
Well look this is my problem. I bought my 92 eagle talon tsi awd at an auction. And i havent gotten the car started since i got it. mainly cause i had to fix some things. but thats out of the question i have.
My problem is that the started i had on the car would spin but it would sound like if it was slippin on the flywheel teeth. so i thought the started teeth were bad. so i went and bought a new starter. Now the new starter was doing the same thing. for a lil bit and a couple days later i went to show someone and all the starter was doing is spinning freely. Like if it wasnt grabbing and teeth at all.

What im wondering could it be that the teeth on the flywheel are bad. when i replaced the starter i tried to see the teeth on the flywheel and they seemed fine. i actually felt it with my fingers. because to see it in the position it is with the motor in the car its impossible.
What else could it. i mean two starters go bad. even thought they work fine. im lost out of options. how usual is it that the teeth on the flywheel go bad. i mean those things are real tough and ive never heard of it happening.
If you guys have had this problem and can figure something please tell me let me know.
Im going to take the motor out on thursday to clean everything up and simply cause im bored and tired of seeing the car just sitting there. so hey i figure do something to it. But i want to know what i should look for before i bother taking the transfer case and tranny off.

Oh i just rememberd another thing is when i remove the transfer case and tranny what fluid should i use on it. and since the driveshaft is off. (i bought it without driveshaft) anyhow should i change any seals or what.

The motor itself may be fine, but for some reason, the gears inside of it aren't coming out to catch on the flywheel. Are you sure that they gave you the right starter? The 1.8L starters and 2.0L starters use different gearsets.

I wouldn't be suprised if they gave you a bum starter, depending on if you picked it up from Autozone or somewhere similar. Exchange it for another starter (make sure it's for the 2.0) and see what happens.

Engine was swapped and they put on the wrong flywheel.

How'd it wind up at auction?

I had almost the saem thing go on when I got my new trannny put in it was that they were just givin me the wrong starter and I Think tahts your problem

Well
the first starter that was on it was catchin the flywheel but it was slippin. so i dunno. its the second one and i called discount and they told me they gave me the one on the computer and i checked it to make sure.

im taking the motor out tom so i guess ill figure it out hopefully.

but it got in the auction because it was a stolen recovery the tow truck company had found it on the highway.
now to the point sayin it was motor swap its kind of interesting.
because one the front engine mount has no bolt. the car had no drive shaft. it has no belts except the timing and main pulley belt for alternator.
the power steering pump isnt screwed in either. the bolts are missing. and another thing that has me in shock and scared is that the wastegate isnt there. and the hole were the wastegate pin goes it has the old piece of pin there and its rusted on. so i when i went to go put the pin in i couldnt i have to drill the only piece out.

Now im just wondering if they tried to steal the motor or something. i dunno im at a lost. the motor does turn by hand though. and there is no wire tampering going on in the engine bay or anything. the ignition was messed up but i fixed it. interior was clean too except the part where they ripped the ignition. and the assholes stold all speakers and radio.

but my main concern is the starter i have fixed everything else. except the starter and the wastegate pin whcih im going to do once the motor is out.

Sounds for all the world like the thieves stole the engine and threw in a boat anchor to get it to a dump spot.

thank god they didnt. the body is in good condition same as interior so thats not bad. i mean i got it for 850 buks so w.e i dont think its a bad deal.
