Here is the problem. I am trying to pull my motor and have run into a slight issue. first I could't get the trans to drop and then tried to lift the motor up enough so that I could pull it to the right and clear the flywheel from the bellhousing. Anyway I found out, I think at least, that the reason the tranny wasn't falling down was because I didn't drop the transfer case. Anyway, after a lot of frustration I put the motor back down and then heard this nasty cracking sound. The shaft that goes into the T-case is hanging halfway out and I lost all of the fluid on the floor of my garage. what is it that is likely broken and if I drop the T-case down should the tranny fall down like I want it to?

You need to step away from the car and do some reading before you attempt a job such as this. First of all it's physically impossible to completely seperate the trans from the engine with the transfer case still bolted up. The part that goes into the transfer case is called the driveshaft. It is supposed to be able to slide out of the transfer case if you unbolt it from the tranny and slide it forward. Not sure how you got it out of there though. I'm assuming you are trying to remove jsut the motor and not the tranny? I have heard this is possible, however more of a pain in the ass then it's worth. I would just pull them both out at the same time or drop the trans first so the engine easily comes out. If you do try and pull the motor with the trans still in the car I believe the crank pulley and belts will need to be removed for it to clear.

I am not reallly scared of doing stuff like that, I just haven't done it yet so it is a learning exerience. I will go home and drop the T- case today and see if I can do anything more to get the engine out of the car. I do know what a drive shaft is, but I need to know what I could have broken with yanking the drivshaft out of the transfer case. It did spill a lot of oil and stuff on the floor when it fell out.

Heres a little order for u to follow.

1- Disconnect all the wiring etc
2- take the intercooler piping off
3- drop the downpipe and drain all fluids
4- take the turbo and exhaust manifold off
5- drop the transfer case and driveshaft
6- get the hoist hooked up to the motor
7- unbolt the motor mounts
8- slowly pull the motor with the tranny on and unbolt the tranny once the motor is out.

i just did this like a week ago so i think i pretty much covered it. Hope this helps.

Ya, I got it off this morning. It was the darn transfer case that was screwing me over. The old 7-bolt is fubared so I guess that it is time for a 6-bolt. :coy:

Yes but you still use your 7 bolt trans and transfer case. If you broke the transfer case your going to have to get a new one, hopefully somebody will have one in your area.

By waht you said it sounds like you broke the casting on the case or something like that, either way it's not good.

Yea check your driveshaft for any visual damage and the transfer case as well. I too would say you fubar'd your transfer case casing in which case you would most likely need to find a new t-case. If your driveshaft got scratched in any way there's a good chance you will have a transfer case leak in the future so you'll have to keep checking the level or replace the driveshaft. Good luck.
