I just installed my HKS 272's today, and when I went to install the CAS on the end of intake cam I noticed that the end of the cam was not tapped for the 12mm bolt that holds the cam trigger on. Is this a screw up by HKS or am I responsible for having that tapped. According to HKS website they state this...

2202-RM005 EAGLE Talon TSI, TSI AWD 1989-1999 Turbo ; 97-99 Models Require Modification For Cam Angle Sensor.

looks like you have your answer. I have no cams so I can'tt tell you for sure. I have a 95 so.....

Yes, you have to have the cams tapped for the bolt. On another note, you may want to have the length of the intake cam checked. I installed 264/272's in a friends 99 GSX, and was having problems with a cutout that occured anywehre from 3k to 5500. The length of the cam caused the cam sensor to freak out, and timing would go from 33* to 5* at the point where this problem occured. The cam was not cut to the proper length and subsequently had to be taken to a machine shop to have it fixed.

On RRE's site:

* Please specify if your car is 97-99, you will need to drill and tap the intake cam for the cam angle sensor to bolt on.

it's M8x1.25

Ok.... this I didn't see because it was on the page where you ordered the cams not on the installation page.

Thanks Ramen Pride

Thanks SugarRay I will check that today too.

It's easier to do with it out of the car ;)

We had to do it in place because we never read far enough ahead

Does anyone have a picture of what this should look like. I just got my cams in today. Both the Ex and In have threads on 1 (one) side. Now is the other side on the intake cam the thing that needs to be drilled?

Wow. Thanks a bunch for the quick and accurate reply. Im going to my friends machine shop today so I should be all set. Thanks again

Sorry to bring back to life but i just finished installing HKS 272 on my 98 and noticed this for the CAS...

Can i tap the thread myself or should i take it to a machine shop? Since the hole is there in the cam, can i just run a tap through it?
