well if rubber bands "go bad" than i guess tires should too. this is some crazy $#!+ i just bought some brucie's last week and later found they're from china and ive heard some bad $#!+ about chinese tires.

Did any one notice that the vehicles in that warehouse were all suvs.
I noticed that. Typical media doing their best to strike fear in the hearts of the public. Sensationalism at it's best!

If you figure a tire might have a 60,000 mile life expectancy, the typical driver doing 12,000 miles per year will use that up well before six years, so it's not a problem. And likewise with vehicles with a high center of gravity.

I've had this happen to me in the Talon in the last couple years. Right rear tread completely separated from the rest of the carcass at about 70mph while I was on my way to the airport to pick up my dad. It made a bunch of noise and sounded like someone threw a handful of rocks at the back of my car. There was no handling issue whatsoever. Car was just shaking a bit at speed.

I pulled right over to check it out and was surprised to see the carcass still holding air. Of course, the morons at Wal-Mart who fixed the last flat on the tire made sure to torque the lugs to more than 150ft-lbs, so I ended up driving to the airport, picking my dad up, and taking an hour to drive all the way back home on surface streets on it. Within five minutes of parking the car, it was flat.

And yes. I knew the tires were older, but not how old. I'm not concerned about it. No shit they tell you the tire is new. It is.

I have been in the Tire Racks wharehouse here in reno and it would take a very long time for a tire to rot away with the way they keep the temperature in that place.

To be fair its not just the tire companies fault take it from me first hand. I work at the local tire kingdom and I tell people everyday with 2002 to 2004 that they might have a lot of wear on their tires but they need to be replaced and they don't want to hear it. Its amazing the risks people take to save a few bucks.

Excellent find Tom.

I had no idea this was happening! Can't wait to ask my smart ass friends how old their tires are.

Nice catch, Toan. Not only do I have to re-inflate 3-out-of-4 tires every other day, now I gotta worry about this shat. Greaaat. Gotta get me some new rubba. :toobad:

Don't forget to check for those faulty valve stems!

Oh my god! "It's like a ticking time bomb!" O, what will we do? "I was led to believe" his tires were safe. No, buddy, you assumed the tires were safe, based on absolutely nothing. And when was the last time he checked the air pressures? When was the last time he inspected the tread for nails? When was the last time you inspected yours?

Stand by kids. This is the first chapter in the New Tire Regulation and Taxing Bill. BOHICA. ABC News has found another boogy man!

Murder the goddamned media NOW.

here, tires that are 6 years old dont pass inspection..soo

i cant believe what walmart sears and co is doing in the US..unbelievable

and in Europe, the >Date is on the front side of the tire(side facing outwards) .it is not legal to mount them with the date facing the rear.

The DOT aren't mounted on the inside all of the time thats just how the tech mounted them its not like they did it on purpose. When I used to mount tires I used to put them facing out. When you bill out a customer this number goes into the system I put them on the outside to save myself from crawling under the car. This is just another ploy for the media. I stand by my company If anyone wants to come look at all 3200 tires in my warehouse with me I would assure you that maybe 10 of them are from 06 and if anything they are made on the last weeks of 06. These are also our discountinued tires so we don't even sell them. Mark another one up for the media on a scare tactic. By the way who all checks your air pressure at least once a month like your supposed to. I bet its the same people that assume a tire will never blow out. To be honest I've seen brand new or a few month old tires blow out. It's the nature of the beast. That would be like being out in the middle of a lake in a thunder storm and being suprised you got struck by lightening.

ill be checkin tires tommorow, I got my tires in 05 so ill be checking them..

I just got new tires couple weeks ago, says 2606 on mines... So there like 2 and a half years old. Theyll probably only be on my car for a 2 yrs tops before different tires will be thrown on. Mines are the Falken Azenis RT615. No problem since tires are good for at least 6 yrs? Though it sucks you spend a bunch of money and some of you are getting real oldish tires.

The Fwd guys dont have to worry about tire age, they burn thru front tires in months LOL J.p

I just got a set of snows from Tire Rack from 25th week of 2005. I wasn't thrilled but they aren't going to take them back. I work at a Porsche Dealership and we'll change or recommend tires based on D.O.T. stamping. Hopefully I can use these snows up before they become a potential issue.
