Hey all, New to the forum I'm TexMex

Right, so my buddy got a bigger than expected paycheck and his mom is a bit of a baller so he did what any other 19 year old does, bought a car. He decided to get an eclipse GSX 1997 without having me drive it but since its not his daily driver, neither of us made a big deal out of it. Funny thing is he can't drive stick and wants me to teach him on a stage 3 clutch.

The car is fairly modified with a set of hks 272 cams and god knows what else thats making it put 315hp to the wheels.

Now.. I'm not a complete idiot, but neither of us have ever worked on cars and I'm smart enough to realize something is wrong with this car.
1) When turning there's a knocking sound thats coming from the driver side wheel area generally when giving a lot of pedal. It's not really anything I've ever heard before. Maybe something about that recall done on 2gs?
2) Reverse is impossible to find. And the shifter is generally rough. Took me a solid 5 minutes to find reverse the first time I drove it. (RIP Tranny?)
3) No windsheild cleaning stuff... Looked at the jets on the hood and they're just there. No hoses, no pumps, nothing LOL. But there's no room under the hood to fit a reservoir tank the original one is just not there...
4) Car stalls for a few starts and then finally stays going.
5) Now idk if this was because of my buddy, but I was trying to teach him to drive around the island and he stalled, but wasn't really listening to me when i said "clutch clutch clutch....clutch" and the car ended up doing the whole half stall dance for a meter or so and then just a massive backfire. Car cranked afterwards but wouldn't start, gave the poor thing a break and it finally cranked. Any damage done?

Now again I'm not a COMPLETE idiot I've taken university level physics courses, cal 3, and organic chem. Is doing all this stuff with my friend going to be a learning experience or a trainwreck? Either way, I'm down with it, but where do i start...

TL;DR bought car, car go woot-toot-toot-toot-toot-POP, car make funny noise when turn, car tranny rip, i no mechanic. What to do

EDITO: Car was bought to be messed around with, plz no h8.

The knocking sound while turning sounds more like a bad cv shaft(i call em half shafts).
The linkage probably just needs adjusted, dont think bad tranny JUST yet
The wiper reservoir is under the spare tire in the rear of the car. Its probably been removed, fairly common when people start modding dsms
? stalls then starts going.... Idle air controller? FIAV? TPS? Something else...idk, cant say

This is a 1997 car. Most every dsm has been thrashed by previous owners, hacked jobs etc... you know the drill.
So while you and your friend are completely capable, as anyone is who's willing to learn, of fixing and modifying the car know this: It IS an older car. WHen you go to fix problem A you might find B, C, F, and.. Z while you're at it. Catch my drift? It becomes and endless journey haha. Just keeping up with things is indeed a chore and the car will need attention.

1.) Axle needs to be replaced
2.) The shifter most likely has new bushings and the tranny may need an oil change (which will need to be done when you swap the axle, use penzoil syncromesh), and/or the clutch needs to be adjusted. What color is the clutch fluid?
3.) Reservoir under the spare
4 & 5.) Maybe check the caps on the ecu? Try hooking up a code scanner. The ecu is located behind the radio, and can be accessed by removing the driver side panel under the center console.

Im not completely certain, but the car may be stalling continuously because it needs a tune? Do you know if the car has an EPROM ECU and DSMLink or SAFC? Also DSM transmissions are typically a little notchy, I know mines a pain in the ass sometimes haha

clicking noise while turning is the outer axle/cv joint binding up due to lack of lubrication cause cv Boot is leaking grease. For my awd it was cheaper and easier to change axle.[DOUBLEPOST=1408324427][/DOUBLEPOST]for clutch issue check for any moisture around the slave cylinder on the trans and master at the pedal assembly. And bleed it well. Air Gets trapped in the accumulator That bolts to tranny. I would replace master and slave just to be sure.

Great community here at DSM tuners. Thanks for all the help so far guys you're wonderful. Is there any way to visibly know if the cv shaft is the problem? I'll get back to you on the clutch fluid color.
