Alright well I just bought my 90 tsi like a week ago knowing that it had a ps leak in it, which seems to be pretty common in these cars. The last talon I was about to buy had a leak in it as well. Anyways I figured I should take care of that before anything else so I went down to the local junk yard picked one up and brought it home. So I took off the bad pump and went to install the newer one and the brackets are a different size? Are there any differences between the 89-90 power steering pumps and the 91-94??? This newer one has a much bigger gasket as well.

Also the leak isnt bad but I do have a bit dripping on to my driveway, which probably is hitting the alternator before it gets there. I put a bag around the alternator until I get the rebuild kit, but i was wondering if the alternator would still be okay? I drove around with it yesterday the car seemed fine. It isnt smoking like the other guys that I test drove, it just screeches when I start up the car but when Im driving around its fine. Is there anything I might as well do while I have the pump out of the car? I am probably going to buy a new belt for it but other than that I cant think of anything else. This is my first time really working on a car other than changing the oil so wish me luck :thumb:

when I changed the alternator in my talon the brackets were different also, I just used a pic I found off google to see how it worked, I would check the lines before you buy/install a new pump, so you don't go throwing away money, (what am I thinking?? this is DSM world!!)

Where is the old one leaking from, is it from the hose that has the big nut holding it down, because if that is the case you can just replace 2 o-rings. Also, you can get gaskets from the dealer ship to rebuild it, easier than taking the pump off
