Power steering pressure switch

Hi guys- For a while now I have been concerned with the lack of power my car has. Just no real POWER. Well my check engine light came on a few days ago and I got a P0551. Power steering pressure switch. Ive done about as much reading as I can on this and I read that if this switch goes bad.....retards the timing. What are the chances that this is the power lack issue? Would it have a dramatic effect on the engine? Im going to install a new one and see what happens of course (when I find a new one!) but was curious if I this switch has that kind of effect?

Is the check engine light still on?
I don't believe the ecu would pull timing over a power steering issue.
I do know that ground connector on the PS pump helps with your idle.
Oh BTW don't let any of that hydraulic fluid leak on the alternator.

Actually I just finished installing another switch. Before I started, the CEL was on and the code was listed twice. Replaced the switch, started it up and no CEL. Put my code reader on it and "No Codes Found." Havent driven it yet though.
