ive been driving with the power steering pump off for about 10 thousand miles now and put the pump back on today becasue i am selling the car. i filled the fluid up and kept the cap off and turned the wheel back and forth to bleed the system.

while doing that ill have power steering off and on and the pump is making a loud noise. when i turn the car off the fluid foams up and out the resivoir. what could be my problem?

i was thinking, could the lines running to the power steering cooler be bent enough to stop the flow. when i put my intercooler on i remember having to push them back some. could that be causing the problem?

Did you remove your lines too or just your pump? If you removed your lines, I'd look to make sure you don't have them ran backward. It's kinda hard to do that though, cause one tube is bigger than the other. If not, check to make sure that your lines don't have a leak in them. Even a pinhole leak can cause funny problems with a PS pump.

You don't have your system filled up.
1 Put car on stands
2. fill up the resevoir, wait for it to "gravity bleed" back down by itself, then fill some more.
3. When the fluid is done being accepted by the system (when it no longer bleeds down), turn the steering wheel lock to lock a few times (do not run the car).
4. Check resevoir to see if you need more. If you do then add it like you have done previously.
5. When system no longer accepts fluid, then start her up and do a few lock to lock turns. May need to add a bit more but you should be good.

This usually isn't an issue if you haven't pulled all the fluid out of the system. But if you've allowed the system to pretty much empty out, it takes a bit to fill it back up.

I had mine off for longer than 10,000 miles, it was doing the same exact thing, I just kept turning the wheel, and making sure it was full, I did this several times with the cap on and off.................it took FOREVER to get it working right and a LOT of power steering fluid, I guess it was because of how much air was in the system or something, I would just keep playing with it, if mine eventually worked yours probably will too.......you know unless something is actually broken.

sweet
i kept turning it and adding fluid now its working thanks.

IF you do, that was added aftermarket. Our cars do not come with one stock. Maybe an Automatic, but I've never seen one. I know tha Autos have a tranny cooler that runs in front of the AC condenser.

No, the automatic transmission fluid cooler is integrated into the base of the radiator. The power steering fluid cooler, which consists of a single loop of tubing, is in front of the AC condenser.

All 95-99 n/ts that I've seen all have PS coolers (single loop line) running in front of the radiator.

I've owned 3 2G NT's and pulled the power steering and AC on all of them and never had to remove a PS cooler line. I think I would have gotten a good reaming from Locke or Paul if that were the case.
That's not to say that some don't come with the PS cooler, I've just never seen one.

Paul, I just remembered having that epiphany while installing my turbo. I was wondering what the extra holes were on my radiator and my good friend pointed out that it was for the auto tran. fluid lines.

Maybe I could give you a "reaming" about our PS coolers ;).
We have a PS line that runs in front of the radiator for the purpose of cooling.

Sometimes a line is not just a line and sometimes a cooler does not look like a radiator :thumb:
