Hey,
Ive FINALLY got to the point to where i could get my car back on the road officially this past weekend and im very glad i got this far and finished it....well kinda. See i`ve been seeing some little issues and i just had a couple of questions about them - first off...my oil pressure. When i started the car up for the first time after doing my BSE and porting out the oil relief valve in the oil filter housing (first time was a charm by the way LOL thanx to all the pics on here! :thumb:) and along with that installed a new oil pressure gauge the oil pressure was perfect. Now when i took it for a test drive, noticed a couple of leaks coming from possibly the oil pan gasket and my oil pressure would be very close to zero when idling at a red light at operating temperture. I only drove the car for 10 miles if that because i was VERY worried about it and noticed also when i checked the oil, the oil was past the second mark (like the stick is reading that the motor has a little too much oil in it) but the oil light did not come on. So i just parked the car back up for right now but the car still drives great. What could cause this? Is it just the fact that i`m using 5w-30 for my break in and not the usual synthetic 10w-30? Possibly a bad turbo? (i still have the stock t-25 with some shaft play), the oil leaks are not bad at all i personally think it is the oil pan gasket but thats just me.

I think your just making extra careful that the motor doesnt have any problems. I felt very cautious when I rebuild my first motor. I dont understand what exactly your asking, are you saying that the oil level is high but the light doesnt come on but you think it should? The only time the oil light has come on for me is when the oil is low, I dont know if it should come on when its too high.

Yea its rather odd really. I mean here is whats happening. On a cold start (say the first time i go to start my car up for the day), the oil pressure after warming up will be at about 23-ish psi. Now i go drive the car and im idling at a red light and the gauge is reading practically at zero. But when i accelerate, the oil pressure does build up but rather slowly, now granted i have not taken my car past 4k yet. And yes the oil light has not come on yet. Now after all this i went to check the oil and the oil dipstick was reading that the engine had too much oil and i put in 4qts. of oil just like you should. So im a little confused about what i`m seeing.

Yea my pan is slightly dented...but not a whole lot actually. And the oil level is not at a dangeous high level at all. And i know there is oil getting to the head because i see oil all over the cam when i look into the valve cover. Could it be that im using nonsynthetic 5w-30 to break my motor in to cause this issue? I was told that i was using the wrong weight motor oil and i should be using something like 20w-50 for break in?
