Hey everyone, I was visually checking my timing on my cam gears today, and I have a question. When looking at the cam gears, there are 2 tick marks, one on each side of the gear. One is big and one is small. Now, the big tick line on the exhaust side lines up with the small one on the intake side. The big mark on the intake side is on the opposite side. Is this bad??? Or does it not matter at all what tick mark is lining up with which, as long as they line up??? Thanks!

Are you having any problems with your car running? If your timing is off even one tooth yourcar will run like a pile off crap

It sounds like it misfires intermittently, but also starts to run like crap only when its up to temperature. I just didnt know if the tick marks made a difference on which one lined up with which.

Make sure your dial pins are pointing up ,12 oclock postion at top dead center. The 4 marks should all run parallel and lined up perfect. even with the head . The 2 center marks should be perctly lined up.

Placing a straight edge across all 4 marks makes it easy to see if it's off a tooth.
"misfires intermittently, but also starts to run like crap only when its up to temperature" will be something else (like coolant sensor for ECU or front O2 sensor), not timing.
