Possible to do without a mechanic ?

So i bought my 1996 gsx and the valve cover had a crack in it, in my assumption the person over tighten the screw on the second injector and cracked the case, when we opened we saw oil in the bay and now oil is everywhere underneath my hood. Is it possible to remove and install a new valve cover if you have no experience with cars? on the other forum i read that the valve cover doesn't even need to be sealed, just screwed in, is it true ?

Will installing fuel filter trough a breather hose help my engine stay clean from oil ?

Keeping your engine bay clean from oil shouldnt be an issue, unless you have a leak somewhere else too.
Degrease the engine bay.

Yes, should be a very straight forward job. VFaq is your friend, dont over complicate things you'll be fine. I would use a gasket for sure.

Thank you very much. I bought a valve cover from Ebay which was re-manufactured and sold at the price of 125$ ( i believe it was black coated ). People told me that its a rediculous price for the valve cover, and i can probably find something way cheaper on junkyard. What is your opinion ? Junk yard or go with new paint coated ?

It depends on what your budget is.
Tip: Hyundai Valve covers aren't as brittle.

I would look around on here in the classifieds and see if you can find one from someone for less. Look for people who are parting out and what not.

You could find a clean one on these forums for $40-60. less at a junk yard, and various models of chryslers and hyundais have the same valve cover. Just search around a bit to learn what to look for.

Nothing wrong with paying $125 for a powder coated piece, but I would always source the junkyard/forums first personally.
