Here is my situation, not new to dsms but on forums im new-

Picked up a 2gb talon awd with a 6 bolt swap, already had arp head studs/wiseco pistons (close to 1g stock compression according to him) eagle h beam rods, small 16g mhi (rebuilt, i know its easy) fmic ss braided fuel lines fuel lab afpr for $500, reason because the car overheated but no signs of blown head gasket, it overheated because the radiator broke on the neck fron wear so then he pulled into work and stopped, later i come and i hear knocking, he got tired of if and needed a car so thats why the low price, he said its a spun bearing (shavings in oil, no milky feel/look, no sign of blown head gasket)

Ok so anyways, since it has the wiseco/eagle setup, it might have damage to crank i know, but would there be chance i have to replace pistons and rods? He didnt run it hard, was just on the road to work when it happened, and also what certain specs will i have to use when rebuilding the engine for those same pistons rods if it already had them? And where can i get the ring replacement for them? Thanks to anyone who gives me input

Do you know how many miles were on the rebuild?

I would assume the pistons and rings should be reusable. If the cylinders need honed you can get a new set of rings to match the pistons (standard or bored over) from wiseco or many vendors that sell wiseco pistons.

Rods should be fine, but pay close attention to the rod that spun the bearing. Check it/ or have it checked by a machine shop for roundness where it clamps to the crank. If it's oval, many machine shops can bore them to be round again.

You will know more once you tear into it and investigate.

Make sure you thoroughly clean the block and all parts to remove all the shavings from the spun bearing/s. Including your turbo, depending on where the oil feed is coming from! :thumb:

It is being feed from the head, and the owner has said within 5000 miles, but my thought is that maybe when the upper radiator section blew, and possibly sucked up coolant through the intake, im not sure how bearings just go bad like that

Something like that should not have happen on a fresh build with 5k miles. Either something wasn't machined right or it wasn't put together right. A tear down is in order to see exactly what is going on. Hopefully it is nothing that will cause a complete re-build

If the seller of the car rebuilt the motor himself, it could have simply been from not removing previous shavings and or who knows what.

I ordered the wrong size main bearings once, it was a late night mistake :ohdamn:

I think I ordered them from MAP and the sizes were MM, and I forgot to convert the standard grind of the crank over. I had very little oil pressure once the car warmed up, luckily I was able to catch it before it destroyed things!

Disassemble/inspect/clean everything, especially if you have bearing material floating around inside!

he admitted to me that he bought the car for $1000, in the summer of 2013, block was already assembled in the car and he just pulled it and installed an ITM gasket set head and block, he never disassembled it,

this is said car - 96 Talon TSi AWD - DSM Classifieds

I snagged it for 500 because of body, titled in louisiana (im in texas extra fees and inspection needed) and had to tow, needs a lot of love

$500 wont get you much now a days :hellyeah:

Once you get the engine sorted out, and give her a little TLC you will be set!
