porting my 14b out tommorow

hey guys i decided to port out my 14 to get the most out of that turbo/ stop alot of boost creep. anything pointers that you guys can offer, do's/dont's i know what im doing when it comes to porting the turbo but any parts i should buy? p.s im also doing the o2 housing aswell, one quick question is the 14b turbo where the exhaust connects bolts or studs?

You have me worried on the last question you just asked. Porting a turbo is a long process. A good drill and porting bits should be used. The fact you asked that question is leading me toward should you be porting it. In case you do the 14b turbo, it is held to the compressor housing by the band. The housing is bolted to the manifold by 3 bolts and a stud if it has not been changed.

Buy a 1/4" shank carbide bit, double cut, christmas tree shaped. carbidebur.com is where I got mine.

You need a compressor and a die grinder that takes a 1/4" shank. Or get an electric die grinder from harbor freight for $40. Trying to do this without the carbide bit and die grinder is stupid IMO.

Then buy some cartridge rolls and sandpaper drums. Use those in the die grinder after using the carbide to get all the material out and the port fairly smooth. Then I use a 120 grit flapwheel on a dremel, then polish with sandpaper up to 500 grit. You want this shit mirror smooth to discourage carbon buildup

If you want a mirror finish, there's a product that is basically scotch brite on a stick that works wonders, but I forgot the name Or just fasten scotch brite to a dremel shank

k you guys misunderstood what i ment by how it bolts on the exhaust on the o2 housing, bolt or studs ### i know the nuts are rusted on.....

I think what you are asking is: "How does the turbo bolt up to the o2 housing and then from the o2 housing to the exhaust?" There is a gasket between each connection.

1. Exhaust manifold to turbo - 3 bolts and 1 stud w/ a nut
2. Turbo to o2 housing - 3 bolts and 1 stud w/ a nut
3. o2 housing to exhaust - 2 studs w/ 2 nuts

Does that answer your question? I think you are also asking: "What size bolts or nuts are used because you will need to cut them off?" Unfortunately, I don't have an answer for the thread pitch of the nuts.
