I looked at some pictures and I wanna know if I should port my OFH.

I just got my motor built and I got the head thing ported, but should I get the OFH ported too? I don't want my oil pressure to be too low.

Thanks..

Also aproximately how much do I port it?

Are the balance shafts eliminated and are oil squirters in or out of the block? Depending on how high of oil pressure you have is going to determine how much you should port but porting only goes so far.

Porting the oil filter housing is all dependent on how much actual oil pressure you are building. Since the engine is new, give it some time to settle in and break in. Then you need to determine what its running at with a decent oil pressure gauge.

When I ran my new built engine this year, my oil pressure was off the charts. 90psi cold idle, 100+ and pegging the gauge if I revved it. I blew one oil pump seal and I took it apart. I also have no balanceshafts and no oil squirters.

Some people think that porting the OFH is hogging out a huge hole with a carbide bit and calling it a day. I used a hand file, no power tools necessary.

I just widened the mouth and leveled it flat on the bottom almost as close as I could to the orfice in the piston. The piston doesnt move much, there is no need to hog out a giant hole. You're basically just widening the area that the oil escapes from, which isnt much. I also swapped out the spring for one with a bit higher mileage than the one that was in there. I didnt shim anything or double up on crushwashers like some do. Call me lucky, but my oil pressure couldnt be any more perfect.

Now I see roughly 80psi at 8500rpm, and 10-15psi at idle. Perfect. No more blown oil seals and my turbo is happy.

I bought everything at once so when it is together it is finished.

I have the AEM oil pressure gauge.

So should I port it a little? I just don't want to have high oil pressure on the new build when I put it in my car.

Just go by the pictures you have seen in the threads you read. After that's done, wait for the break-in to finish and then see where your oil pressure is at. If it's still too high, then do some more and adjust the spring some. It's trial and error.
